Default Snorkeling in Ketchikan

We just returned from our Alaska cruise, and we did the snorkeling in Ketchikan. It was fantastic. It was a learning experience snorkeling in a 7mm wetsuit, but what we saw was awesome! My girls and their friend really enjoyed this. It wasn't really cold with the wetsuit, and I would do this again. If you are looking for an exciting excursion, this is it...

Have a fun trip, we certainly did,
Kathy

Kathy, I was wondering...where do you change into the wetsuits? They say to bring a bathing suit to wear underneath, but is it really cold out getting the suits on? We will be traveling in May, 2007 and I was thinking of this excursion, but was worried it would be too cold. Thanks for any info you have!

Hi Lisa3,
Sorry I am so late in replying, but I had to go to Atlanta last Sunday. When they pick you up at the dock, they take ypu back to their location where they have a place for you to change and they fit you with the correct size wet suit and snorkeling gear. In the water, we didn't feel the cold at all. Then they take you back to change clothes and they have hot chocolate, hot tea, hot cider, etc. They also give each person a water proof bag to put all your stuff in and it is locked up. I think we saw more snorkeling in Alaska than we did in the Caribbean. Have fun, it is worth it..

Kathy

Hi Kathy,

WoW! I'm impressed...snorkeling in Alaska? I was thinking it would be too cold all of the time....hubby & I have gone snorkeling & scuba diving many times in the Caribbean, but didn't think about it for our cruise next year to Alaska! And you saw more sea life there??? Well, we'll just have to give that a second thought! Thanks for the info...I would hate to miss out on a wonderful experience!

Happy Cruising!

...Jean

Hi Jean,
We saw tons of sea creatures, and lots of kelp forests. The starfish were really huge, and a lot of different colors. They said that animals and plants are bigger there because of the extended light in the summer. Since you are already experienced you may want to spend more time snorkeling or diving than the excursion allows. Here's the link for the company we used..

Have Fun,
Kathy

Hi Jean,
We never felt the cold. You are so covered up, only your mouth is exposed..

Would also be interested in Ketchikan snorkle info. BTW, you can also cover exposed facial skin with vaseline or silicon lube for insulation.

When we went, we booked through Carnival and it was about 125.00 per person, but you can book directly. That is what I would do, and you can spend more time snorkeling that way. They do pick you up at the dock, and provide your wetsuit and gear. My family had a great time.

Have fun on your trip,
Kathy

Default Ketchikan Intertidal Life

The excursion sounds great.
I was curious about what kind of intertial life is in Ketchikan.
While searching I found these Photos of Ketchikan Intertidal Life!
Fascinating.

We decided on Tatoosh Islands Kayaking in hopes of seeing some of this as well.
