Just Back from Cruise of the Glaciers on Diamond Princes

Alaska as usual was Spectacular! The Diamond Princess is a beautiful ship and while most things were satisfactory, It just wasn't the service of Holland America in my opinion and the cabins were smaller. My wife and I boarded the ship around 3 PM but our bags didn't get there until almost midnight. I called room service on several occasions and never received an answer until the last day. In the buffet, it was next to impossible to get someone to refill your coffee cup whereas on Holland America, they were usually right there with the coffee. The cabin steward, Henry, performed the only true service we received that was outstanding.

The shore excursions were also great. In Skagway, my wife went on the Glacier Point Wilderness excursion where she took a canoe to the glacier and I went fishing on Chilkoot Lake and caught a couple of sockeye salmon. In Juneau, my wife took the Helicopter Walkabout to Mendenhall but my excursion got cancelled to Taku lodge because of weather. In
Ketchikan, we both went on the Wildnerness Escusion ans Crab Feast; it was great.

We had plenty of the Alaska Sunshine of the liquid variety but it didn't bother us because it is more of fog and mist than heavy rain.

Thanks for your comments about your Alaskan trip. We are going on an Alaskan cruise June 2007 on Holland lines.

Thanks again.

We were on the Sapphire Princess 7/8 south bound cruise. Weather in College abd Glacier was wonderful. I got a suntan/burn in glacier on the way out....Sunny and warm when you were out of the wind. Recommend the left(port side) of the ship because the naration is all about the way in and not the way out. Being up on deck on the bridge wings is the best view going in. Festive enviroment and great view. Have the right cold weather/rain coats. Cabalis has great deals in the off season. and well worth it to have the gear when you need it. Rest of trip was wondewrful with some rain and mild temps. Already booked for next year. We can hardly wait to go back.......
