We had a wonderful time in Alaska, this was our first cruise. The weather is unpredictable and can dampen your plans. But just go with the flow.
College Fjord, early morning visit so the glaciers looked eery.
Glacier Bay was mostly sunny! Saw the the glaciers calving, ship stayed an hour and turned so both sides of ship would see.
Skagway - was a drizzly day and low cloud coverage. Did the White Pass Railway - was informative but our visibility was low. Train up, bus down. Skagway is a neat little town.
Juneau - very cloudy and rainy. Our helicopter and dogsled on glacier was cancelled. Disappointed but what are you going to do, so we made other plans. We went to Mendethol Glacier, nice tour, but again visibility poor. Went to the salmon hatchery, that was very interesting.
Way to many jewelry stores in this port! Spoke to passengers who went whale watching and recommended it, wished we did that.
Loved Ketchikan, our favorite port. We didn't have any plans in this port and since we didn't get on our helicopter tour, we went on a short floatplane ride. That was great. The SUN actually shined in Ketchikan!!
Went to Creek St, just to walk thru and went to the lumberjack show, silly but fun.
Friday was a day at sea thru the inland passage on our way to VanCouver. Nice and sunny, spent the day on deck, passed thru some narrow straights with beautiful scenery. Ship took a bit of a list, but recovered quickly..
Of course we flew out with heightened security, but we did the check in on board ship and received our luggage receipts and boarding passes. I think this was worth the $15. Didn't get to see VanCouver, but had a nice narration on the bus to airport.
A memorable trip!
