Default Alaska Cruise from Vancouver - flying into Bellingham, WA

As we are considering an Alaska Cruise from either Seattle or Vancouver, we were pricing out airfare to both locations. When pricing out Vancouver on Kayak.com, we came across a good fare to Bellingham, WA as an alternative airport. Anyone know anything about flying into Bellingham? How far is it from Vancouver? What is the best way to get up to Vancouver from there (price vs. speed). While I'm not as concerned going, as we plan to stay overnight in either city before the cruise, I'm more concerned with coming back when we'd probably wind up going straight from the ship to the airport and would need to know logistics.

Any info would be helpful. Thanks

Vancouver is about 1 hr north of Bellingham . Probably the easiest is a rental
car . There is a Greyhound bus from Bellingham to Vancouver(rtn) ,the
schedule may not work for you. The bus from Bellingham to Vancouver
takes 2.5 hrs.

Check
http://www.greyhound.ca/

for schedule and cost.

We drive down from Langley B.C. to Bellingham every week (cheap cheese and milk lol). Depending on which border crossing you take (Lynden being the quickest but Peace Arch being the most direct to Vancouver) the time varies - based on how much of a line up there is. It's really a short drive. I'm not sure if you can rent a car from the Belingham airport and drop it in Vancouver - but that would be the best way to go. It would get you to Vancouver as well as give you a chance to have a good drive around the area en route.

Bellingham is a really small airport. We choose to fly from there rather than Vancouver if at all possible. We use it for Reno, Vegas, Laughlin and Wendover. Very easy to find your way around lol - one terminal - two flight check in areas.

Bellingham Airport has it's own website so you should be able to find ut about car rentals from there.

When are you taking your cruise, what line etc. We are going on the Carnival Spirit in September.

Anything I can help you with please ask - on here or e me.

The most significant consideration is that the cruise lines do not provide transfers between Bellingham and Vancouver, so you would have to get there and back on your own. Your best bet may well be a private van service. Also, allow plenty of time in your schedule. You may well have a delay of an hour or more at the border crossing.

Frankly, I think that you really would be just as well off booking flights to and from Vancouver International Airport (YVR). The flights might cost a little more, but the transfers to downtown are quite quick. Returning to the States, you clear U. S. immigration and customs at Vancouver International Airport so the flight operates as a domestic flight after it crosses the border. Of course, you will need passports to fly to or from Vancouver.

If your cruise leaves from the cruise terminal at Canada Place, you might want to check out the Crowne Plaza Georgia Hotel. It's in a fairly upscale area (neighbors include a Four Seasons and a Fairmont property) about four or five very short blocks from Canada Place -- easily walked if you have "roller back" luggage. There are also a lot of decent restaurants nearby and a very good shopping mall on the next block. Crowne Plaza offers fantastic discounts on "prepaid" (non-refundabe) rates, too, so it won't set you back an arm and a leg.

Norm.

Quick Shuttle gives great service between Vancouver and Seatle, and stops at Bellingham airport both ways - http://www.quickcoach.com/
Far cheaper and easier than even renting a car.

Default Alaska Cruise from Vancouver

In 2006 we stayed at the Pan Pacific. This hotel is located on (not near) Canada Place. Your ship pulls up along side the hotel. The Pan Pacific has an Alaska Cruise Package. They have four price range in this package. Harbour, Harbour Mountain View,Inner Harbour View, and City view ) The price range is $360. to $274. U.S. Dollar. City view being the $274 Included in the price is complimentary breakfast, Check out 2:00 p.m. . Elevator to ship boarding area. We cruised with Princess and was told to leave our baggage minus our carry on in the hotel room and Princess would pick up our baggage and transport them to the dock. Princess did exactly that. No problems at all and our luggage was in our state room by 7:30 p.m. You only have to manage your carry-on. The hotel was beautiful and the staff and service was excellent.
