Bear Viewing Tours in Mid Sept?

Karen or anyone,
Are the bear viewing tours still available in mid Sept from Juneua, Ketchikan, Sitka? Neets Bay? Are there independent trips going here?

It will depend. My 2 mid Sept trips had bear watching over.

Traitor's Cove would be possibility. I suggest you contact a vender, and book, if they recommend it. Ask for the option to cancel if sightings drop off prior. Call the week before you go and find out what they are seeing.

The Pack Creek bears (excursions out of Juneau) were out that late, but nobody was running tours due to weather last year. Sitka would be a fun option to try (one that I hadn't considered before.)

(Good advice about calling a few vendors and asking. Many operators will have to charge a late cancel penalty to cover the cost of usage permits.)

For all locations, the bear visibility will be directly affected by the timing of the salmon runs. If fish spawn there, they will come...

Thanks Karen and Case. We were in Katmai on 8/31 on our last trip before boarding cruise southbound in first week of Sept, so have never been this late or w/o land portion. We're doing Dawn from SF before they discontinue. So there may still be bears on Sept11-14 from port above but there may not be any tours running due to permits. Was that what we said? Do salmon runs tend to end by then or it is different each year?
