help with best carryon luggage

Hi---just reading about the carry on size ---especially with land portion-and the train--both of the ones I bought seem too big----anyone have suggestions of brands / or styles that work the best.
Please take time to help this first time cruiser. I'm getting so excited --leaving in 2 weeks...

For me, a back pack is the way to go, several zippered compartments and hands free carrying. Cheap too.

also a new cruiser and i also had trouble with this one... my boyfriend ended up getting a back pack... which is also nice because it offers more give than a standard tote bag (unless you get a flimsy one) in case you end up having to squish your stuff a bit under your seat. i ended up getting a "shoulder bag" from l.l. bean... fit the dimensions but still had all sorts of nifty compartments to keep my stuff organized. you might also consider a messenger bag...
