How party of 4 could get from Anchorage, airport to Seward, port?
What cruisers use? taxi or shuttle? Any advise is highly appreciated. 10000 thanks
If your cruise line offers it, the best option is the "Grandview Rail Transfer" operated by the Alaska Railroad. The special train runs from a new station connected directly to the passenger terminal at Anchorage International Airport to the cruise ship pier in Seward, so it is totally seamless. Unlike the motorcoach transfer, the train offers plenty of room to stand up and stretch (in addition to wider seats) and full food and a dining car beverage service in addition to beverage and snack service in each coach. The rail line also passes through some incredibly picturesque terrain, some of which is completely inaccessible by highway, so be sure to bring your cameras!
It is NOT Budget that has one way rental cars to Seward- it's ONLY Hertz.
I also do NOT recommend the cruise contracted train, unless you are so tight on time and arriving the am of your cruise. Instead highly superior is to just take the 6:45am regular run of the Alaska RR and get into Seward in time for some fantastic activities. The cruise contracted rail is poorly scheduled, no time for much of anything either in Anchorage or Seward cost is also $35 more per person.
Just excellent to consider is a Kenai Fjords boat tour, loaded with varied wildlife and close up extended glacier viewing. Far superior to anything seen from your cruise ship. Plenty else to also consider- don't miss out on some great opportunities and take advantage of being there.
