Default Millenium Celebrity versus Coral Princess to Alaska

I'm planning a trip in August 2008 to Alaska with a land package to Denali and I'm deciding between the Millenium Celebrity and the Coral Princess.
On the Millenium Celebrity I'm looking at the Panorama Deck with Concierge Class with a Balcony. On the Coral Princess I'm looking at the Caribe Deck with a Balcony.

I heard that the shower on the Coral Princess is very small and tiny versus the Millenium Celebrity which is much larger.

Also, the land package I'm looking at is 3 nights on Celebrity vs 4 nights on Princess. Celebrity goes strictly on Motorcoach while the Princess goes by Train. Any thoughts on this.

I replied on another board to this post.

Frankly 3-4 night cruisetours are lacking and not likely to be what you think they are. Most of the time will be in transit and especially if it only includes the Natural History tour, a great deal of money spent on little.

Do your homework and understand fully what each cruise tour is, time in transit, included tours, free time etc.

Overall with short time, you are better off going independent, since a portion of time on cruisetours is eaten up waiting, loading/unloading buses, meal stops, bathroom stops etc.

You can much more efficiently manage your own time, according to your own interests usually with significant savings. Very simple to arrange.

A few years ago a TA cruise specialist I know (now retired) told me that Princess was the only way to go if you were doing an Alaska cruise/tour.

Princess has superior cruisetours??? Sorry, in my opinion, no, not with all their cruisetours including the Natural History tour, which are significant compared to their Tundra Wilderness cruisetours. A completely substandard interior Alaska tour.

Hi Rich,

The Coral Princess would be a much better choice for an Alaskan cruise. There are many observations areas all around the front of the ship especially that are not surrounded by glass as they are on the Millennium. You would probably be able to get a mini-suite on Princess for the same price or less than a CC on Celebrity. One other thing that I feel is a major problem with the Celebrity Millennium, is the recurring propulsion problems that have plagued this ship since its launch.

Hope this helps.

I just saw a couple of Princess cruisetour itineraries for 2008 that include the Tundra Wilderness Tour.

Apparently someone got the memo.

We're booked for the Coral Princess in 2008 and our tour includes the Denali Wilderness tour although I noticed some of the other tours do not.
