When we were there last year we just walked the town and shopped..It is soo pretty there and I would have loved to have spent more time exploring..

Thanks. I was wondering if you could just walk around. They do have that excursion with the ship - which I always take excursions with the ship (call me chicken). We will be there for 11 hrs, so I want to see what I can. Thanks!
I think you can book the Ester G through the cruise lines..We were looking at booking them privately last year for a fishing trip but they said because they are contracted with the cruise line I had to book through Carnival..BUT If I wanted a wildlife cruise I could book through them privately..

We enjoyed just walking around exploring the town. Really interesting Russian style buildings in many places. We saw otters and seals by the water. In fact more wildlife in and around Sitka than any place else in Alaska.
Just walk into the town and see the various things that are available. You will see many bald eagles in the trees. A great museum that is not far from the dock. Russian churches, etc. No tours/excursions necessary.

Jeff thats pretty much what we did...We saw alot of eagles just hanging out in the trees..The walk way along the dock there were picnic tables where your could stop and watch the harbor..WE had a very nice long conversation with a Native American..I think he was from the Hayden(???Spelling) tribe..We talked about life in Sitka and how the cruise ship industry changed things..He gave us a history lesson talked about his family and how all the young people were leaving..It was VERY interesting..
