Know it will colder and maybe less rain, anything else to consider?

I have not gone at the beginning of the cruising season but I hear the townspeople are nicer. They have been bored all winter and you are the first bit of tourists bringing money and activity. After several weeks you become just another tourist blocking the roads and stepping out in traffic.

I think you will see lots of snow on the mountains and possibly more ice in the fijords. It should be very pretty.

Some of the fiord's that have glaciers might still be ice bound.

This year Hubbard glacier didn't allow ships to approach until mid-june.

It still could be quite cold in May and very wet

(snowy in some places). The White Pass RR might not be open

that early.

Hi,
If you can,the best time to go is mid June because the days are longer,
warm weather is coming more things to see at its peak.
Have a nice cruise.

The earliest I'll take an Alaska cruise is about May 20 - it's just too cold before that (and I live 110 miles north of Skagway, Alaska).
