Different strokes and all that, but if this is your first visit to Sitka, there is a lot to see and do - the totem park and a long marine tour to St. Lazaria and the sea lion rocks in particular are at the top of my list.
Sitka is a top area for varied wildlife boat tours. Independent booked are superior in my opinion. This is also the only accessable close up area on the Inside Passage for puffins, if of any interest to see??
We lived in Sitka for a while back in 1977 and there is a lot of great things to see. When we are at the travel shows we aways talk with the people at the Sitka booth and they say it has changed from when we were there. We want to go back but are not sure if a cruise would give us enough time for us to look around maybe a 3 day weekend would be better any input would help. Is Sitka still a tender port, they had a few ships coming in back then I don't remember who.
Hi there, we invented our own tour. Catch the city bus at the tender dock. Take a lap of about 45min. around the area, then get off at the college. The hatchery is across the street (the college has a cool museum too). From the hatchery you can walk about 1/4 to 1/2 mile to another visitor center/museum. Next to this is a path thru some woods and over a big stream with salmon running if you are there the right time of year. Maybe 200 yards later you cross the street, up a driveway and you are at the raptor center(very cool). If not interested in a nice walk. Just pick the tour of choice! I plan on returning to see more that we missed. Have fun!!!
sounds good to me - but I'm skipping the hatchery (this time) only because we are going to one in Vancouver when we return. Thanks for the info!! When are you going?
