Lost of Cruise from Vancouver to Alaska
Just to update people sailing to Alaska in 2010 the following
cruiselines have left Vancouver or removed ships for 2010
Carnival has relocated all their ship to Seattle and will no longer
go to Seaward(Anchorage) or Whittier (Anchorage)
Princess/Holland America have pulled 60 cruises out of
Vancouver
RCI/NCL both have moved one ship to Seattle ,leaving only
one ship each in Vancouver
No word from Celebrity , but probably will do same in the
near future
One ship is equivalent to 30 stops in Vancouver.

The big excuse is because airfare is to high to Van from the US.
I suspect that with a new pier built by Carnival in Seattle
they got some tax breaks from the port , city state and federal gov'ts.
They could always run a shuttle bus from Seattle to/from Vancouver
for passengers.

Carnival hasn't sailed Seward in years. You are wrong on NCL, will be the exact same capacity. 2 ships round trip out of Seattle, Pearl and Star. The SUN will be one way Vancouver/Whittier, INSTEAD of round trip Vancouver. They never had more than one ship sailing out of Vancouver.

Currently (2009) the Carnival Spirit runs from Vancouver
to Anchorage during June , July & Aug . In May & Sept
they do Glacier Bay( 7 Day) . This info is from their website.
In 2010 the Spirit will do 7 day cruises from Seattle
with no ships in Vancouver.

Correct, they only run 3 round trips/year however, the first Sept. run is one way, along with some in May.

How is it possible that one ship equals 30 Vancouver stops, there's only about 20 weeks in the Alaska Cruising season.

Both Prncess and annouced that they have moved 30 cruises each
from Vancouver in 2010 . This could mean more than one ship or
some 2 - 4 day cruise will be lost .
The Statandam is doing a short 4 day from Vancouver in May.
