Default White Pass RR and land tour excursions.

Been doing my homework on what tour to book. So far looking at Chilcoot
tours and a smaller outfit one forum member highly recommended, Dyeadavetours. don't know if anyone has any experience with either of these outfits, but any feedback would be appreciated.

Also need advice on where to get off the train for the land tour. As I understand it you can either get off in Fraser or Carcass. I don't know if which stop is a better place to start your land tour. Also, what are the must see sights on the land tour? I know we will want to see Emerald Lake, but
what other locations are must see? Do you recommend the 7-8 hour tours or the 6 hour tour?

Thanks in advance for taking the time to respond.

DyeaDave consistently gets rave reviews.
Be forwarned that he maybe booked already. His tours are very popular.

Here's what some had to say:

- All communication is via email or phone. He does not have an online booking website. By his own admission he's sometimes slow at replying to email, his sister is the cyber-savvy one. Since cruise season has started they will both be out all day. I would try calling between 5-8pm Skagway time.

- His van is about 10-12 passenger.

- Cash only

- It's about a 6 hour trip and he'll stop wherever you want for photos. Lunch is on your own.

The 6-7 hr trip goes to Carcross, Yukon and Emerald lake. He picks up at the ship and drops off in Frazer for the train ride down.

Chilkoot Charters also gets great reviews.

The Yukon Rail and Bus Excursion through Chilkoot Charters.
The itinerary includes the train to White Pass Summit/Fraser, then by bus from Fraser to Carcross and Emerald Lake. They'll pick you up and return you to the dock. It is $175/pp (7.5 hours excursion) and includes lunch, the museum, and husky puppy camp.

- Their "bus" is more of a van that carries about 20 passengers, allowing them to make many more stops than just the "planned" ones on a ship's tour. If someone sees something of interest (wildlife mostly), they will stop the bus.

- Chilkoot also has their own private railcar for the WP&YR railroad segment (I think Dyea Dave reserves a private car on the train, too.)
