Icy Strait Point Excursion Help

In a couple of weeks my teenaged son and I leave on RCI for Alaska and one of the ports we are stopping is Icy Strait Point which leaves to Hoonah. I was thinking about booking a bear watching excursion with a private company. Is there something better we should be doing? Does anyone have a recommendation for a company that does private bear watching tours?

A lot of the private excursions have been booked for months now.
You might have to go through the ship for this.
Be advised that in Alaska, private excursions are not necessarily cheaper than the ship's excursions.

I cannot tell from your post exactly when you will be in Icy Strait - you may be on our cruise. We leave this weekend on RCI and will be at Icy Strait on Monday July 20. My wife and I are going out for 1/2 day halibut fishing with an independent charter captain. When I talked with him he still had room on his boat for four more fishermen (max is 6).
