We are planning a Princess Alaskan cruisetour with another couple late May 2010. After the cruisetour, we are driving from Anchorage to Seward and staying 2 nights. We plan to take one of the longer cruises into Kenai NP. Would it be repetitive to also sign up for a whale watch in Juneau? There is only so much time and so much to see, I hate to miss out on other things! Any other advice will be greatly appreciated. I already know not to waste our time on the Natural History tour in Denali, thanks to the comments on this forum.
Thanks..looking forward to this first Alaska cruise.
If you spend time in Anchorage, eat at Glacier Brewhouse. Great food, service and atmosphere. Are you stopping in Ketchikan at all? www.ketchikanblog.com is a good site if you are. If you're going to SE Alaska, try to do a seaplane tour to the Misty Fjords. Awesome! Good chance of seeing bears too.
I appreciate the responses. The trip seems so far off, but it gives me more time to do all the research. Maybe do the land touring without the cruiseline??
Yea, whale watching in Juneau would be a nice treat, it doesn't take the entire day, still leaes time to tour the town. I love all the Alaska towns, just so different from home and the ports you visit in the Caribbean.
There are different whale watching excursions, the ship will offer them and you can also book independently. I always recommend Capt. Larry at ORca Enterprises, they do have their own web-site and their office is right in town, not far from the pier.

If your doing a Princess Cruisetour won't it be easier to us their transfer
service then driving for three hours.?

Frankly, it isn't about "easy" here. It is WAY superior to go on your own and have the options for extra sightseeing, rather than just a transfer. So very much more is available.

There is nothing "repeative" about taking a whale watch out of Juneau and a boat tour of Kenai Fjords out of Seward- which is a route trip and offers varied wildlife and a close up glacier viewing.

If you are at all looking at going interior Alaska independent, absolutely do your homework and consider it. Cruisetours are lacking in my opinion. Alaska isn't the best place for group, point to point touring. You can see FAR more on your own, in a better timeframe. (no waiting for fixed times, no load/unloading time etc etc etc).
It is simple and easy to go on your own. See twice as much at a lower cost.
