Which Time of Year is Better for Cruise/Tour

Heard that there is a 'fly season' that can make life a little challenging and it appears to be in June -- is it better in July? in August? in September?

Need to book a 12 to 14 day trip between other commitments. Considering mid-end of July, mid-end of August or first part of September. Is the weather much different between end of August and early September?

Can anyone help with the decision by giving pros/cons of each time period?

My Mom turned 75 this year and this is her way of celebrating this milestone so would like to pick a time that has a higher chance of being bug free and good weather.

I know there are a lot of you out there that have cruised Alaska many times so any advise/recommendations/comment would be welcomed.

Alaska is always a slight crap-shoot. But late Aug. or early Sept is the time frame I'd recommend.

We've been very lucky with weather for Sept. cruises.

We were in alaska in May 2008 .Every port we stopped at had record breaking temperatures (heat).

Last cruise there I went in July and had great weather, no issues with insects either.. It is a tough call to make, some weeks are great and then next one could be terrible.
