Dirty shore line
Toxic Japanese debris piles up on Alaska's shore - CBS News
Very sad that the shore line in Alaska is looking bad. estimated by 2013 1 and 1/2 tons of trash will wash up on shores of Alaska all the way to California. |
It was ment to say 1 and 1 half MILLION tons of trash...not 1 and 1 half tons...
|
Well thats really bad.
yeah i read it on internet also. |
I went for 2 weeks in May and don't recall seeing any trash. Is that why Alaska cruises are insanely cheap this year, people think it will ruin the view?
At $349/wk I'm considering going back again! |
My company sponsored a big beach clean-up near Ketchikan last week.
We sent 60 crew in our tender boats to the local beach to clean up all the trash. We even brought along a Japanese interpreter to identify anything from Japan. We do not allow plastic bags on our ships, so had to go to the local supermarket to purchase a large quantity of those large American plastic garbage bags. We filled 300 bags with trash from the beach. We found plenty styrofoam and paper McDonalds containers (not in Japanese). We collected thousands of Budweiser and Miller beer cans and bottles (not from Japan). We found hundreds of shotgun shells (no guns in Japan). We picked up thousands of soft drink cans - all in English. All bottled in USA. Nothing Japanese was found. |
We are certainly guilty of poluting our own shores. When I go anywhere I find myself dragging out someone elses trash. This is on the beach, in the mountains or wherever I go. The idea of leaving no trace is simply to tough for some folks and it is very sad.
I would like to point out that some of the nicest shotguns in the world are made in Japan. |
