Default Sunbird - rescue at sea

Just returned from our first cruise. Booked through Sunquest for 7 days on Sunbird. Live in London, Ontario, flew via Skyservice to Barbados, taken directly from tarmack to ship (30 min. ride, complete with driver telling us about the island on the way), had us checked in and in our cabins in 30 minutes. Service impeccable, activities varied and well run, itinerary terrific. Lots of room for the two of us in our superior inside cabin (2 closets, lots of hangers). From Barbados to St. Lucia, Grenada, Margarita, Cucacao, Aruba, day at sea and back to Barbados. Capt.: British, crew: International, Passengers: British Isles, Canadian & Scandinavian. Disembarkation swift and well organized. Flew on time back into Toronto, just before the storm on Dec. 11th. Had already booked a room, so we weren't stranded. Mostly veteran cruisers who said this cruise was a great deal, and terrific itinerary. They raved about the ship & sevice as well. 1500 passengers, 500 crew and we were like a family the whole week. Husband is already plotting another cruise for us! This ship does a run in the Med. from April to October. If you planning to cruise, this ship is worth a hard look. They also do an Eastern Carib itinerary back to back with the one we cruised. Incidentally, on December 10/00 we rescued two young men who had been stranded at sea for two weeks in a tiny fishing boat. They were from Grenada, had been fishing, & their motor wouldn't start. The current caught them, and they ended up 200 miles away from home. We were sailing between Aruba and Barbados. Passengers spotted these guys. Coast Guard had been looking for them, and gave up. When we picked them up they were in bad shape and figured that they wouldn't have lasted another night. They had, at one point caught a dolphin and ate that, but they had nothing else. We had to sink their boat ( couldn't take it aboard, and couldn't leave it) so passengers took up a collection to fly them home and to put towards another boat and motor. Coast Guard contacted their families. What a Christmas miracle. Apparently even a cruise ship shows up as a tiny blip on radar, so they wouldn't have shown at all. We were off our regular course to avoid rain, and just stumbled on them. They in turn, had found a red cloth floating in the water, and used it as a distress flag, or we would never had seen them. it's a miracle we didn't swamp them - we almost ran them down. The sea was pretty rough that day, as well. They were rehydrated and cared for by medical staff, and were well enough to get off at Barbados and fly home the next day. So there's a Christmas story for you! Season's Greetings to all, Ken and Cyndi

What a great Holiday story!!! I have heard great reviews reguarding this line and its ships. It is marketed to U.S. clients starting this year through a couple of companies that Airtours owns including their U.S. division of companies. I have seen great deals!
