Hi Lyn: We are booked on the Uniworld Russian Riverboat Tour on August 2nd to the 14th. Havn't heard too much about it from others but those I have heard from said the scenery was great.
I am going for the scenery and to see more of Russia. We were in St. Petersburg last August and loved it. We booked as soon as we returned home.
The Uniworld cabins will be smaller, the food shouldn't be as good as larger ships and the entertainment will be nill BUT- the cruise and the scenery should be fantastic. Since the shore excursions are included in the cruise, we will save a lot of money.
If we like this type of cruise, we will probably do other countries.
We haven't book yet, but am looking at the Kirov who sails with Viking Cruise lines. Like you, we are going to see Russia, and not the food or entainment. I've heard it is a wonderful way to travel.
Very relaxing. It will be great.
I'm looking real hard at a Russian river cruise as well. I visited St Petersburg while on a HAL cruise a couple of years ago and found it very interesting. Since them I have visited Yalta and Odessa in the Ukraine, on a HAL cruise as well. I am comparing a cruise through INTRAV with on through Viking for an August trip. The prices seems to be good this year for all river cruises in Europe. Do you know what kind of air arrangements Viking uses?
Sounds like the major ones. Air France, Lufthansa, Delta, Some Scandinavian Airline. Did say they did not use a Russian Air line called Air Flo or something like that. Seems to depend on where you are flying from. Toll Free number for them is 1-800-707-1287.
We sailed on the Viking Kirov last summer and had a great time. You can read my entire cruise review on Linda Coffmans website <www.cruisediva.com>. I have heard that the food on the Uniworld cruises leaves a lot to be desired. We had excellent meals and a wonderful trip.
