Default How many people would book a non-smoking ship?

Another non-smoking ship would be a wonderful thing to have! Before Carnival sent the beautiful and lovely Paradise to it's smoking grave, justl ike every other cruise ship, my husband and I would ALWAYS check our her itinerary before any other, just because we loved the fresh environment!

How many others would give a non-smoking ship their priority before booking another if they liked the itinerary?

It was a sad day when they gave in to popular pressure....

We did the Conquest in 2003 & found the Degas Lounge to be smoke free, very nice..... Wish more lounges were smoke free on the Conquest such as the Karoke lounge, tried to enjoy it but was tearing up from all the smoke....

I'd book a non-smoking ship, but I guess it's not in the cards for financial reasons.

I would not book a cruise simply because it was smokefree, e.g. after 10 cruises, I have not cruised on the Paradise. However, being a non-smoker, I would love to see more non-smoking ships or severely restrict where smokely is allowed.

I'd book a smoke-free ship in a heartbeat. Hey, smoking is banned from airplanes, public buildings, most workplaces & restaurants----so why not cruiseships.

I've been told that the Paradise did not always sail full, so I think people spoke about booking a non-smoking ship.

Yes, I understand that apparently smokers spend more money on a ship, but if a ship can't consistently sail full, it's not a wise business decision, I suppose, for the cruiselines to continue sailing it non-smoking.

Oceania is mostly non smoking. No smoking in cabins or balconies. Just a few corners of the ship that allows smoking.

I believe cruise lines do very well controlling the smoking in areas of the ship. It is the people that are out of control when smoking.

Would I book a non smoking ship .. NO. Each individual has rights, smoke, drink, eating you name it. None of us should criticize another.
Have fun on a cruise, that is what is all about.

We go for the itinerary and the cruise line, not because of smoking or a booze cruise.

I would certainly book a smoke free ship. I have found when you complain about smokers in non smoking areas of the ship it never gets taken care of.

Thanks for everyone's responses. And the point of this discussion was not to discuss the financial worthiness of a non-smoking ship (that subject has already been beat to death!) but how many people would give priority to a non-smoking ship.

On our farewell cruise to the beautiful Paradise, we were told by the CD that if enough people filled out their comment cards stating that they were interested in another non-smoking ship, it may again become a reality. We would definately cruise that ship!

Thanks again for everyone's responses....

This thread is a queston on whether you would book a non-smoking ship and not a debate on smoking. Posts will be deleted that do not relate directly to the topic.

I would never book a ship because it was non-smoking. I just don't see where it is a big deal as long as the smokers smoke where they are supposed to. I am a non-smoker, but used to and understand how hard it is for them. I live with one that always struggles to quit. Maybe the real issue is that the lines should enforce the smoking areas, so issues like this are not even thought of.

Perhaps I'll change my mind after my first cruise.

Wasn't trying to re-start the debate, just making an observation that I think people *have* already spoken on whether or not they will book a non-smoking ship. It seems not enough people voted they would.

But, to re-phrase my answer. ....I would book a non-smoking ship because of its itinerary, the ship itself (perhaps a new ship I hadn't sailed already) or even the cost, but not specifically because it was non-smoking. And I'm a non-smoker, BTW.

I would definitely book a non-smoking cruise. I was on the Paradise for our first cruise and it was great. Although I do realize the economies of the non-smoking ship. Could Someone out there at least have a few weeks a year that were non-smoking? (I promise I will buy more booze and gamble more )

I would! I wish the ships now had very limited smoking areas and the staff would enforce smoking only in designated areas.

I would book a non-smoking cruise and have done two 7 day cruises on Paradise when it was non-smoking. I have asthma and really appreciate being able to be in a smoke free environment.

Maybe the cruise lines should initiate a test program on at least one of their ships whereby they designate a certain number of staterooms in each category as non-smoking (just as they do at land based hotels)....take another look at the ship's common areas that are currently designated as smoking areas and strictly enforce the posted rules. I believe the cruise lines do a pretty good job of cleaning the staterooms that were occupied by smokers but one area that I cannot tolerate is the casino...when I go to the casino, I always go as soon as it opens and leave as soon as it starts getting really busy and full of smokers. I certainly would enjoy the option of booking on any ship instead of being restricted to only one non-smoking ship (such as the Paradise). If Disney World can come up with a successful plan that prohibits smoking (except for a few designated areas in their theme parks which are strictly enforced), I believe the cruise lines should be able to initiate a plan that would accommodate smokers and non-smokers. Maybe the cruise lines should hire a consultant from the Walt Disney World corporation to guide them to a successful program.

I would never book a non-smoking trip. I always travel with extended family, which includes my mother who smokes heavily. I think that is a big problem with non-smoking ships and one of the reasons why the Paradise didn't work: They lose almost all group business because if even one person in the group smokes, the whole group must book another ship.

I would not book a non-smoking ship. Don't get me wrong I can't stand cigarette smoke, it is a filthy habit. That being said I think you would find a more diverse fun crowd on a split ship. In the words of Billy Joel, I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints.

I think the operate word was "popular"

Maybe a small, older vessel might surface and fill this niche

Count me in. My DH and I are both non smoking and being around smoke makes us ill, so we would be thrilled if there were a non smoking ship.

Default Discrimination

I think that would be considered discrimination again people who smoke. Where do you draw the line? How about they have a weight limit for cruisers or an IQ number you must reach in order to travel.

Well, Jenn, a person's IQ or their weight would not affect my ability to breath fresh air or MY health....

Maybe someday another cruise line will take the leap and offer another smoke-free ship....it would get my preference!
