Default Security against violence

I would hope that the incident with the "pirates" causes the cruiselines to take serious changes. The audio is great but please, employ at least one supervisor and six men to be "special" in additional training. They can fulfill regular security duties when not engaged in training or God forbid any actual incidents. These men would be trained and come under the direction of this supervisor whose sole duty will be training and supervison of these individuals. He neess to be able to train these individuals in the proper use of firearms and other weapons. These weapons should be but not limited to a M-60, M-16, MP-5, and LAW hand held rockets and grenades as well as repelling boarders, and even forensics and bomb disposal or handling and fingerprinting. Hopefully these skills would never be enployed and these weapons would never have to be removed from the weapons locker except for training and cleaning/maintanance. In today's world it is a safety means that need to be utilized. You could use retired or former military or police to train or be these individuals tasked with this mission.

Our limited cruising experience has all been Cunard (Caronia and QE2) and both ships' security officers were ex Ghurkers (sp) who at least looked more than capable of handling a bad situation

I saw a note somewhere that some ships carry firearms - but this may be just a rumour
