okay I will start: since I haven't done the southern carribbean; I can say out of the Yucatan area; Bahams, Cayman and Jamiaca; I think Jamaica is my favorite, specifically Ochio Rios; once you get away from the cab driver's and get out there it is really beautiful and the people are truly wonderful.

My picks are Barbados and Dominica. Barbados had the clearest water I have ever seen and the softest cleanest sand. The Beach was heaven and I plan to go back just to be in that clear clear water.
Dominica is the most tropical of all the islands I have visited. It reminded me of some of the islands of Hawaii. Also Dominica is not built up as yet so you get to see a real Caribbean Island nation that has not been overrun with hotels and tourist traps. I plan to revisit that island also, probably on the Carnival Destiny in Fall 2008. Maybe by then Carnival would have swapped the Destiny for a nicer, newer ship.

My favorite port visit in Caribbean was the time we stopped at port for Caracas Venezuela. We took a full day tour of Caracas and surrounding area; it was wonderful. Of course, this now falls into the "been there, done that" category. If I was going to choose a Caribbean port to return again and again to, I would Barbados or Curacao.
I've only been there once, that may be why it's my favorite . The port is Limon, Costa Rica. We took a full day, cab tour. We had a wonderful cab tour and it was a wonderful day with beautiful beaches, met wonderful people, beautiful scenery, banana plantations and a great lunch with Jimmy Hendrix bass player. A memorable time and a place I want to return to and further explore. I do suggest getting out of town as quick as you can.

Cartagena - antiquity is everywhere
Costa Rica - lush like Hawaii, but a bit more snakey
Grand Turk - great diving
Grand Cayman - safest island
Grenada - tropical like Martinique, but without the French
Half Moon Cay (Little San Salvadore) - best beach
Martinique - very beautiful, but French
San Blas Islands - cool to see all the canoes meet the ship

Can't pick any one in particular. Love all the island in Eastern and Southern routes that we have been to. Have only been to 3 more than once and each time found something different to do and know there are many more things to do at each.

I find many of the Caribbean islands very different. My favorite so far is St. Maarten. Lots to do there, decent shopping, the locals are friendly and don't overly bother you for taxis, etc. The island is beautiful, love Orient beach, etc.
So far St. Lucia!!!!! I think it had to do with we picked the "Right" excursion.
We took a bus ride across the island. Stopped at many look out points with great views of the pitons. Stopped at a very rural village with a shopping area. Also stopped at a gardens with many beautiful flowers and a mineral bath and water falls. Then stopped at the sulpher springs volcano. Great photo opts at the volcano. Then boarded a catamaran and had a nice carribean lunch , stopped at a beach to swim a bit, then boarded back onto the catamaran and headed to the ship. It was an all day excursion and it was awesome!

I second Donna's vote: St. Maarten! Pulling into port with the fog laying over the mountains was like a scene from South Pacific.
We loved our day on Orient Beach in spite of Hurricane Frances approaching.
