Default Getting off the ship in port

I've read in the cruise lines' brochures that disembarkation begins about 2 hours after docking. This may be a really dumb newbie question, but is that only for the final disembarkation, or is it also true for the ports of call? I'm just wondering, because we're planning to get off the ship and kind of do our own thing in one port, and I want to know what time to arrange rental car pickups, etc.

Also, are the restaurants still open their normal hours on port days? For example, if we're scheduled to be docking at 9:00 AM, will we be able to grab breakfast between 9 and 11, when, presumably, we'll be able to get off the ship?

TIA for your help.

That 2 hours would apply to the disembarkation when you return home. When at the ports, normally you can disembark at approximately the time the ship is listed to arrive.

If you are at a port that requires a tender, the first passengers off the ship will be those that have booked a shore excursion through the ship. Keep that in mind when scheduling anything.

All the restaurants will be open, as normal, during a port day.

Have a wonderful cruise!

On HAL, the Lido opens earlier for a full breakfast on port days.
You can also get room service for a very early breakfast, so as to be ready to get off the ship when it docks.

On most Cruise Lines that I have used (24 trips in the past 4 years) the Main Dinning Room is not open for breakfast or lunch on port days. Otherwise I agree with other responses. Cheers

On our Jewel cruise to the Brit. Isles/Nor. Fjords last June, the dining room wasn't open for lunch on most port days and last Jan. the Mercury's dining room was closed for lunch at least 3 days "...in order to present an expanded buffet luncheon".
It depends on the ship and itinerary.
