Default websites besides cruisemates?

So, I have a new addiction to this site, and frankly, all things cruising. The problem is, I have read everything on this site, and I have nothing new to read...

So, I'm wondering if you look at any other cruise websites that I should add to my list

Sure there are lots of them, BUT that would be contrary to CMs rules - after all they're competitors.

Why don't you try a Google?

Other cruise websites!? Why bother with the rest when you're already logged onto the best? They add new stuff all the time. I find more stuff to read over everytime I log onto this site. Everyone is so friendly and has so much knowledge to share. I've visited a couple of others, but none is as friendly and feels more like "home" than this one.

I don't come here as often as I would like, but every time I do I find lots of new information. And this is one of the friendliest sites on the Internet. I rarely see any big blow-ups, and people seem happy to anwer questions.
Sometimes you can run into snobs who feel it is below them to answer questions for newbies.
That is not the case here.

I agree that this website is the best. But I find that cruise diva dot com is not a place to chat. It is a good website though where you can find packing lists, etc.

With almost 1,000,000 posts and 5000 articles, I'm just wondering how long it took you to read everything here

Seriously, there are other sites, good and bad. Thanks for coming here though and keep coming back. And don't believe they negative sites, they are just a bunch of hooey!

I too used to visit "other" sites, but quite honestly, they've never offered the same family feeling you get here at Cruisemates, haven't had a need to go elsewhere..

Hope you stick around for awhile, lots of good info here, be sure to share any of your comments/stories and of course questions.

I used to go to a different site, but it turned out to be mostly a dueling travel agents forum. Jumped out quickly!

There is another good cruise website, starts with the same 'Cruise' title, just a different ending.

It's just as good as this site, there's some good folks over there. There's a woman named Shirley who lives in Port Canaveral area who helps folks during hurricane season if they get stuck.

You just call or email her & she comes to the rescue. Wonderful woman, she's a good soul. Wish more could be like her.

I don't agree that other sites are "Competitors". Here's why:

* They all have message boards
* They all have photo galleries
* They all have the same news links
* They all have the same ship review features
* They all have the same cruise shopping
* They all have the same cruise information

How do you call this a Competitor when there's no money involved? They aren't "losing" any business. I personally that so-called rule is silly nonsense. Give me a break.

These web sites are commercial ventures which are advertising supported. That means advertisers pay to reach the visitors to the site. The policies are in place to protect the value to the advertisers. By this commercial support the site remains free for users!

We are competitors in that we are seeking advertising from those in the cruise industry who want to appeal to people visiting THIS web site. So, allowing people to advertise for our readers to visit other sites wouldn't make much sense.

Grocery stores all have groceries, but you won't find any of them allowing other stores to put up signs advertising their stores.

You won't see newspapers running advertising for other newspapers.

etc. etc etc

Unfortunately CM doesn't get as much traffic as I would like. Threads sit for days with no one responding....

CruiseMates gets over 20,000 unique visitors every day, so the traffic is quite high. Our visitors also spend quite a bit more time on the site during their visits than other similar web sites.

We find we don't get much of the "chaffe" you might find elsewhere. Once a question is asked, if the poster is given a correct and accurate answer, you don't get alot of people posting to agree

We also don't get into arguements or minutia as much, and flame wars are virtually non existant. That stuff creates activity, but not the type we really care for

Well that's good to know!

Maybe your search function is just really good, too. I know when I first got on here I spent HOURS reading (no kidding!) stuff.

I know I want our MOB thread to get kickin'!

Amen! Not to mention ... post the wrong thing ... an opinion that stirs controversy, etc. ... mention the name of a travel agent ... get "smart aleky" with a moderator and you'll find not only your post deleted, but the whole thread either locked or wiped out. And, if you're real lucky, you might even get your posting privileges revoked. ... I'm surprised that hasn't happened to me yet on one of the other sites.

Blue skies ...

I agree with you totally Kuki. On the one hand there is not as many posts on any one thread as the "other" board but, like you said, once someone supplies the correct answer, there is no reason for anyone else to post. What I like about that is if there is a thread that is of interest to me, I can go away for a day or two, come back and be able to find it in the first page or two of threads. In the "other" board, if a thread is dormant for more than 2 or 3 hours, it drops a page. Can't find anything that way if you miss a day or two of posting.

As far as the arguments go, this is the best of the best. No fights, no bad names, no ganging up, no wars. We calmly agree to disagree and move on.

Love this place.

To be honest, this site is the most informative of all of the cruise forum boards in my personal opinion. I thought I was an expert until I came to this board.

Yeah~~~I tried "the other site" too---once. I tried to write a cruise review and they told me it wasn't "long enough", so they refused it.
Their site is hard to navigate also.
CM is the best. I am fairly new, and I never feel like I will be ridiculed for something I say.
I have a health issue which makes it necessary to rest in bed alot, so I can do that with my trusty laptop. That's why I can check CM twice a day.
I like it here----
