We are spending Christmas & New Years on the Pride Of Aloha. I've read many things on this site about free overnight parking at both the Maui & Kauai piers but when I asked NCL about it I was told there was no parking. I'd appreciate some info on renting & parking from those who have "been there, done that." Thanks.
I'm not sure why you need overnight parking. Does the ship stay docked at the port?
Anyway, we rented cars on both islands. Maui, we found a very inexpensive rental place by walking around and asking some of the shopkeepers. Definitely not Hertz...not even close, but we got a small, old, but functional car for very little money. Had fun because we could explore on our own. They were closed when we dropped it off, and left a note telling us to leave keys with one of the stores. I'm sorry I don't remember the name of it, though.
On Kauai, it was more of a hassle. We could only find one of the big rental places. There is nothing at the dock. Waited with a largish group for shuttle from car rental place, then spent a long time waiting to get a car. Not worth the hassle or the time lost.
But, in both cases, no parking near the docks at all. Maui is stores, etc almost to water's edge. Kauai, just a dirt road for tour buses. Better to rent each day separately if you're there overnight.
Just my 2 cents
