Tampa May Get New Cruise Ship

TAMPA - A new cruise ship could be in Tampa's future by 2010, bringing to five the number of large leisure travel ships based here.

Port of Tampa officials say they are confident they can work out a deal with an undisclosed cruise ship company.

The port is also negotiating to recruit a second container shipping company in the next three years. The port's existing cargo carrier provides weekly service that brings consumer goods and supplies from the Far East, including China.

Together, the two ships could increase revenue at the port by $8 million, compared with the proposed 2008 budget presented by port officials today.
