Default Ok, BE HONEST!!

Who here has ever "taken" their photos from the photo galary without paying?

{I raise my hand}

Normally, NO I don't steal- stealing is wrong and stealing from people is even worse... HOWEVER they charge $20 per PICTURE! That is crazy! On my last cruise, I paid for 10 photos- $200 worth and on the last day, i said screw it, and went and took a bunch more. They were just going to THROW THEM OUT!! So I don't see it as stealing. Anyone else feel the same? And i know I am going to get a lot of $$#&(&! for this post, but That is just how I feel. $20 bucks a photo is insane! And after spending several grand on the cruise and on the ship, drinks, casino, etc etc... I felt it was fair. Anyone else aggree?

Not me, the photos I saw in the gallery had security stickers on the back and WOULD go off when past a certain point. I heard the alarm go off several times. I like to cruise to much to be caught trying to take a 20.00 photo. I've always paid for ALL of mine. You were lucky you didn't get caught.

Does not matter if they are overcharging for photos or that you had spent thousands with them. IT'S STILL STEALING. To answer your question, No I have never taken them.

We don't buy them, either, because of the high cost....but, very simply, NO, it never crossed our minds to steal our photos!

What goes around, comes around....one of these days you'll embarrass yourself. ..... or maybe not

Actually, they are not thrown away. They are recycled. They have a can in the gallery to drop unwanted photos in so that they can be recycled, not just tossed away.

NO MATTER WHAT YOUR CROOKED LOGIC TELLS YOU, IT IS PLAIN AND SIMPLE:

THEFT
STEALING
MAKING YOU A CROOK
AND A CRIMINAL

And then you have the balls to come here and brag about it.

Tell you what, let's suppose you spend thousands of dollars at Walmart or Target..............when they have clearance items that they ar eselling for pennies on the dollar, does that entitle you to go and "STEAL" whatever you want?

I sure as hell would not want you in any of my stores!

Captain

You claim you are a police officer too? Why don't ya tell us which PD you work in, I would be the first one to turn you in. CROOK!

lol, well I was waiting for you to chime in.

The topic was to be honest and I knew I would get flack for it! But the truth is that I saw many people doing it and complaining about the same thing- "they are just going to throw them out anyway."

So i was wondering who on these boards felt the same.

An honest thief?
Hmm I knew you were waiting... the funny thing is I didn't say a thing other than asking if anyone wanted some popcorn? You asked for honest answers, you got them. But since I left you waiting so long, I'll be glad to supply you with my point of view since you asked. This is one more example of the way people twist things and try to justify that what they are doing is right and correct, and anyone else who does not agree with them is wrong or dishonest.

The cruise line is like any other business. They plan to invest a certain sum of money in production or procurement of an item, with a projected return of a forecasted sum of return. If a few people started doing what you claim to have done, their profit margin will slip and then prices will go even higher.

Most people learned this lesson as a child but it bears repeating, basically if you didn't buy it, if it wasn't a gift, then it isn't yours. If you take something that does not belong to you. It's stealing. That is something my 5 and 7 year old both know. It's not even debateable.

By the way, if you were to get caught, how do you think that would reflect on your boyfriend the waiter, who last time you posted, was trying to get you a deal to sail with him again and a family pass, so you could "hook up" again?

If I'm ever caught stealing, can you be the cop who responds?

BTW, I'm being facetious ...I cannot recall ever stealing, even as a child.

There are some guys who wear the blue quite proudly that would like to meet up with you.

As a former LEO myself,,,I'd like to have a word with you.
As far as throwing away the photo's after the cruise is over,,,I thought you could buy those at a discount. Sometimes there are some fine looking people in those pictures that didn't buy them. Why, I have no doubt that all those that I leave behind are sold to the next group of passengers in a heartbeat.....

Ms Beenie Weanie has it down perfectly. Where you may otherwise be a wonderful peace officer and friend to animals, you are no friend to the ship's photographer. I think the concept is called "loss leader". As another example, if you were given a free taste of the Chinese chicken at the mall food court, would you think it OK to take a full plate without paying knowing that at the end of the day they have to throw it out and cook fresh tomorrow? Better yet, if you still develop film at the drug store, do you have to pay? If you never pick them up, they too will eventually be thrown away.

I often wondered what they did with the un-purchased photos. I figured they shredded them and did the recycle thing with the paper but I [b]never, ever thought about taking them without paying. Stealing, swiping, lifting, call it what you may but it is really wrong.

While I am not condoning stealing and have never taken a photo on board, the OP was asking for a show of hands. Obviously, no one in their right mind will now respond in the affirmative. It has certainly crossed my mind that there must be people who do take the pictures. I think they could avoid that by creating some attractive package deals. We sometimes buy one 8x10 formal night, but this year we actually bought 5 or 6. It would be nice if there was some incentive to buy a 'package' of pictures at a better price. Instead, we get a padded folder style frame with a free pic of the ship.....not sure why I would want an 8 x 10 of the ship on my wall. A few years ago, our portait on RCL cost $20 and was not good picture quality. The following week on Celebrity pictures were very good quality but $25. This year on Celebrity the 8 by 10's were $20. So I figure many people drink that much in an evening, and since our bar tab usually runs around $15 to $20 for the whole cruise, we'll spluge on pictures....if they're good.
My other thought is that eventually it will all be digital and we can pick the ones we like before they go to the trouble and expense of printing up thousands of photos that are trashed at the end of the week. It just seems so wasteful. If they would quit doing those stupid 'welcome aboard', pirate at the port, dolphin at the port, or even the basic buoy in port shot, dinner table shots etc. they would save money and could maybe reduce the price. Anyone who really wants a picture can line up for it.

It is wrong. Somehow you got away with it.

I don;t even let them take my picture other than the boarding photo and the ID photo. If it is a table shot, OK, sure, but otherwise no.

The pictures are too pricy for me. I'd rather by some cheap and cheerful gifts from the giftshop!

As misguided says...we have no intention of buying so we don't waste our time and their money taking pics.

We came home with about 200 pics of comparable quality.

We sidestep all the port pictures etc. as we never buy them, but the quality of the Celebrity portraits was certainly as good as a studio at home, and far better than our own snapshots. Therefore, not really expensive at $20.

Are you kidding me? People who have good moral values do not steal - Period. Not stealing because you (1) might set off alarms? (2) might get caught? Stealing because (1) you feel like you were overcharged for other things on the ship? (2) it was going to get thrown away? EXCUSES!
Stealing is stealing is stealing ........

My Thesauraus shows the following words under "stealing"
Theft, robbery, burglary, larceny, thieving, pilfering, shoplifting, pinching, pocketing, embezzlement, appropriation.

I guess if you took those pictures you are a robber, a thief, a burlar, a larcenist, a pilferer, shoplifter, pincher, pocketer, etc., etc. etc - if the shoe fits wear it.

You asked us to be honest. How can you, a police officer who is sworn to uphold the law profess to be honest? Have you ever sat in a courtroom and seen someone who is being tried for any of these crimes? Have you ever heard a judge/jury say, "well, it's okay then if they were just going to throw this stuff away?" No? Didn't think so!

This reminds me of an occasion years ago. I worked 3 part time jobs so I could be at home when my children were there to raise them. One Sunday morning I got a call from the owner of one of the companies that was 1/2 mile from my home. He asked me to come to the office because of a breakin and theft of a company vehicle. He needed me to pull records to give to the sheriff's deputy. When I got there, I noticed a vehicle in the parking lot that belonged to one of the other companies I worked for about 6 miles away,(I know, big coincidence). It seems that whoever broke in also stole a truck from that company. We did a little checking and found the truck in the parking lot had been stolen from the other company and had run out of gas near the second company I worked for. They left that vehicle and stole another one from the company nearest my home.

While the officer and I were discussing the roberries he looked in the stolen vehicle and saw some tools and asked me if I wanted them? I said "No, they are not mine, they belong to the company who owns this truck." His response was "well they will just think that whoever stole the truck took the tools." My response was, "but I would know." Of course I did not take the tools, but I told him that I would be sure that the tools were still there when the vehicle was recovered from the sheriff's department. If not, I believe he would have taken those tools.

Ok I have refrained from commenting until now, but this has come to the point where I feel I must. AnimalRights, I don't think you are terrible person because you steal photos, but it is wrong. Even if they did plan to throw them away, that is their own hard work to throw away if they wish. You say that you are a cop and you do all these other great things, but I do not think that excuses you from following other laws/social guidelines. I feel I can say that because about four feet away from me sit a 28-pound improved body armor vest, and I have a 9mm gun on my hip. I haven't had the opportunity to become a mother yet because my husband and I have spent a grand total of 14 months together out of 30 we have been married. I have a deep respect for what you do, but please remember that your good deeds do not excuse you bad ones.
