Default obstructed view rooms

How obstructed is an obstructed view room?
Are there some less obstructed than others (based on their deck location)? I've booked deck 8 on majesty of the sea, but now I'm a little concerned about not being able to see the ocean.[/u]

Default RE: Obstructed Staterooms

Depending on the design of the ship and the location of your cabin onboard, obstructed view staterooms can either have a partially or a fully obstructed view.
I have 2 photos of obstructed view cabins that I have stayed in. Although the examples do not come from the ship you have mentioned, these should provide a very good example.

The photo below is a fully obstructed oceanview stateroom on the NCL Wind.

The photo below is an obstructed balcony stateroom on the Carnival Legend.
(Note: The lifeboat obstructs the view up to the railing.)

I have stayed in 2 obstructed cabins. RCi did not notate obstructed views in their brochures till I wrote them a letter of complaint. I then received a generous amount as a thank you. On this ship you could see a bot on either side of the lifeboat. Had I known this, I would have selected another cabin.

On another line, Princess. there was a barrel lifeboat, and this window was indented into the cabin quite a bit, and really, this one had no light, or view at all.

I was just touring the Gem, it depended where your cabin was in the line of boats...some were terrible, and if you got the end of the last one some light came in.

What has always bothered me, with obstructed views, is, we are paying for an ov, and get obstructions. Maybe there should be a cat specifically for this..

I would not book one..I want all the light I can get. jmho.....

Where do I start. you are on a cruise and wondering if you will be obstructed to see the ocean. NOT If you are go up on deck.

Second, you are on a cruise, only sleeping in a cabin, in an oceanview, so even the worse sceanrio has you NOT in your office hammering away a powerpoint or whatever it is you do 9-5 monday thru friday.

Just enjoy and don't sweat the smallstuff!!

Thank you for the information. I've only been on one other cruse and had a porthole which I did enjoy looking out into the ocean, but as you've said I won't be in the room that much, so it will probably be okay

Captain, I didnt reply before since you said you were handling it lol, so I hope you dont mind if I cut in here. SOV and Majesty are pretty much identical (I think except for maybe 3 cabins). You can call RCI and they will tell you the percentage of obstruction. There are 6 cabins that are completely not obstructed at all on that deck. Great location.

I believe I had 8572, 25% obstruction. You can see the corner of the lifeboat in the upper corner and a few other things, but I thought the obtruction just adds more to look at.
