Bar set ups NEW question

With all the discussion lately about alcohol on board I am getting confused.

What are the policies, by cruise line, for bar set ups and full bottle room service?

I'll start with what I know.

NCL- Bar set up, yes. Full bottles from room service, I don't know.
HAL- Bar set up, yes. Full bottles from room service, yes.

Please respond for the other lines from your experience.

Celebrity, Azamara: Bar set up, yes. Full bottles from room service. No
Princess: Bar set up, yes. Full bottles from room service. I don't know

On any cruise line you can make arrangements for true bar service in your cabin. Just contact the Bar or Food and Beverage Manager but the cost will be dear.

Take care,
Mike

Thanks for your input.
I have found that a bar set up is really only about 50 dollars more than that spent at a liquor store for 4 bottles of name brand booze.

I've only done bar set-up on NCL. I've never order room service from the bar, but I didn't have to because my mixers and glasses were already in my room :D . I believe the bottle the prices ran about $20 more than buying them yourself but my bar tab was cut by 90%. Great deal for me.

wow! looks like i it might very well be a good idea for me then. i dont want to get a nasty surprise cause of my bar tab.

Thank you.
Did you notice if those lines also offered full size bottles from room service once you were on board?

Rinker, I once had a price list for NCL Bar set ups. I think it started at around $40 per bottle if memory serves. Typically on NCL you should place your order at least 3 weeks in advance by calling 800-327-7030. Ensure you are sent a reciept, print it out as proof of purchase and bring it with you, should your order fail to materialize. I don't know if you can order once you are on board, but you can call the number and ask.

Thanks Beenie. Actually, I think our bar set-up on the Pearl was a little less.
I started this thread to see if we could nail down all of the lines that offer bar set-ups and secondly, those that have full size bottles available from the room service menu.
I still know of only one line that offers the bottles to your room after you board and that is HAL

rinker,, not only were they full sized bottles, but they were litres, not fifths
so the prices are not quite as severe as they first seem.

The only exception was Princess who had pints. I think it was $17/pint and they included 3 cans of mixer with it (rum and coke, voda and tonic)

Yes, I agree that bar set-up bottles are bigger.

Did any of the lines you mention offer bottles from room service?
Just to clarify...I do not mean bar set-ups and I do not mean a drink from room service.
I mean full bottles available for purchase with or without mixers after the ship sets sail.

I hope this is a little helpful

Also, Celebrity offers full bottles that include 6 cans of pop and some nuts for $60 (not sure if full litres) Premium Brands are $80.

rinker250 March 7th, 2008 07:47 PM

Thank you...they appear to be a little on the pricey side.
Are these "bar set-up" prices or from room service?

As an example on the Ryndam: 1 litre of Cuervo Gold was 30.50 as a bar set-up and a six pack of Corona from room service was 18.00.

I'm sailing on the NCL Gem 6/1/08. I just sent today an email to the ship coordinator for prices. When I get the information I will try to remember to post it here. I think it might be wise to do the bar set-up and forget about sneaking vodka on-board. I am sure they know ALL the tricks. I'll just pack a few water bottles for excursion days and soda for the room instead.

gfcleba March 25th, 2008 04:11 PM

As promised, NCL Gem ship coordinator replied and stated there is no price list available. However, I did get a quote for $40 for a 1-liter bottle of Smirnoff Vodka and $65 for a 1-liter bottle of Ketel one Vodka. Bar set-ups include Napkins, stirrurs and Tumblers...big deal! Semms pricy but in the scheme of things you can certainly make more than 5 or 6 drinks at bar prices to break even. i might just split it with the other couple going and supplement with sneaking more on board during a shore excursion.

colorcrazie March 26th, 2008 12:07 PM

Just FYI, when you come back to the ship from a port, they use xray machines to check what you are bringing back onboard. Harder than you might think to sneak anything. If it is alcohol, they confiscate it until the last morning, when you can reclaim it. So, maybe best not to share with your co-cruisers!

@gfcleba: How did you contact the ship coordinator? Did you use email and if so what address?

Thanks,
Dave
