Default Surprise my parents with a cruise?

My family and I are going on a cruise and we are going to surprise my parents with the trip. Does anyone have any great ideas as to how I should tell them. I am thinking of Mother's Day to let them know. I just want to surprise them somehow special. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Fill a pretty basket with the cruise brochure for the ship, and all the goodies that go along with having fun..flip flops, suntan lotion, visors, books on the ports, maybe an mp3 player filled with all their favorite songs, a good cruise book, and, maybe you can find a bon voyage balloon:)

Wow, good response Trip! I probably wouldn't do the MP3 player myself but the basket of cruise stuff is a great idea. I bought my mom a cute sunhat and matching beach bag.

I imagine your folks have passports? You probably will give them plenty of time to enjoy the anticipated cruise. What a great gift, your folks are blessed. MD

Why not add a DVD of The Love Boat.

You are so nice to do that for your parents. A couple on my cruise last September were treated to the cruise by their adult children as a way to thanks them for anything and everything! Both of their kids were working professionals and made good money so their parents did good and tey were repaid!

I surprised my Mom with her first cruise on her 74th birthday. I started planning for it months in advance by putting together a travel packet loaded with information: The cruise itinerary with pics of the ship, the cabin, the pre-cruise hotel and the shore excursions we would be going on during the 7-day trip. The airline tickets and everything else was carefully diplayed in clear sheet protectors which were enclosed in a 3-prong 2-pocket folder. Once we had everything put together to our satisfaction, I mailed it in an official looking, large manila envelope addressed to her in her professional title so that it would be opened right away. She was THRILLED!

I pre-ordered RCCL gifts and had them ready and waiting when she entered the room (Photo Album, t-shirt, pen, souvenir cup, etc. since Mom doesn't drink alcohol). It was the best gift I have been able to give her in 35 years. She still talks about the 1st time she cruised. I'm taking her to Puerto Rico this August for a Southern Caribbean cruise. I gave her this one in person (same format) for X-mas. While it wasn't as exciting as the first time, she enjoyed it just the same.
