Default Airfare

From what I understand, travel agents are suggesting that people should be getting their flight a day prior to the cruise with the whole mess with the airlines. They say it will only get worse this summer and that airlines will be overbooking all flights to cram as many people on the planes with all the fuel surcharge issues and the demand for airfare at an increased level. With that being said, I was told if you booked everything with the cruiseline (cruise +hotel) they would refund all moneys if a flight were to be cancelled and you couldn't get to the port. The problem is they are charging more than double for the airfare ($450 compared to 200$). Are there any other ways I can cover myself if I can't get to the cruise on time?

I think if you can go a day early, you should be fine. If you do that, just book yourself instead of paying double the airfare through the cruiseline..

Travel is getting out of hand in regards to fuel costs.

My first suggestion is to go in the day before. Even if you get a $200 hotel room, for two people, you are still saving $300.

Second: Purchase trip insurance. I believe you should do this even if you book cruise line air. It will cover the cost of medical evacuation or medical treatment outside the U.S. It will also cover "trip interruption". This means it will reimburse the cost of your missed flight and any additional costs (within the policy limits) to get you to the ship's next port.

Take care,
Mike
