Default Occupancy rates and upgrades

I was wondering if any one can provide information on the best time to take a cruise in regards to getting an upgraded room. My thought is the less full a ship is, the better chance for an upgrade. I'm not sure; however, if this is true as cruise lines might get smaller ships or change itineraries in the slower months. I anyone can provide information on this, I'd be most interested. Thanks in advance!

I do believe that the less full the ship is the more likely of an upgrade, especially if you book a cabin guarantee. There is never a sure things when it comes to upgrades, so just hope for the best and book a catagory you'd be happy with. Sometimes you can call your travel agent when it gets closer to the cruise and see what the cost is to upgrade, sometimes if very little depending, again, how full the sailing is.

Best of luck!
