Default What's changed in cruising

Since I first cruised in 1990:

Cruisers in the airport, NOT carrying multiple 3 packs of liquor from the islands.

No more sailaway confetti:(

Only one midnight buffet.

Careful with those pool towels, you'll get charged if you don't return the used ones.

Prepaid tipping

Automatic tipping

I know there are tons more, but just a few off the top of my head.

What has changed...

The ships are HUGE!!!! Not because of steriods, but because they want bigger ships

Private islands--Half Moon Cay is a must

FOOD--more food choices instead of always going to the dining room

Cabins--balcony cabins on most new ships now

Security-tight, tight, tight

Airports-Yes, more cruisers waiting in line at security to get to the gates after a cruise, but when you consider the size of most ships now you can see why the waits can be longer!

I agree with Trip about the confetti. On our first cruise on the Nordic Prince they had a full blown Bon Voyage celebration with photogs on high rise platforms following the ship down the dock. We had a great shot of us on deck, drinks in one hand streamers flying, and was a real throwback to early voyages.

NCL was the first to do the private island thing. Not sure when they started it, but it was already in place in 1982 when I took my first cruise! I almost wrote 1892! I mean, I'm old, but not that old.
Also, much better sound proofing in cabins.
More effective stabilizers....although I kind of miss the old days when I knew I was at sea.
