Default Passports and luggage question?

Copies of passports-would you advise putting a copy in each of our checked baggage for the airport in the event they were lost? Would that be safe?

Sounds like a great idea to me.

We have been doing this for years; ever since it took us a week to get our bags. We also use TSA locks so they can be unlocked and relocked.

We always make sure that we carry colored copies of our passports and pack one copy in each of our pieces of luggage. It's a little like the insurance we always buy, but hope we'll never have to use. It costs little and give us tremendous peace of mind.
