Travel Insurance for an Alaskan Cruise

What's the best way to go on travel insurance for a 7 day Alaska cruise? Is it best to purchase the insurance through the cruise line (Princess in this case) or purchase it separately through a company like American Express?

Go to insuremytrip.com. There are many companies. We have used CSA and TravelGuard. Insurance is based on many factors; ages of cruisers, destination, length of trip and cost of trip. We always insure the day before and day after at no extra cost. It is recommended to get 3rd party insurance and not go with the cruiseline. Have a great cruise.

Trip, 3rd party insurance is a good idea. If you buy from the cruiseline, they cover themselves first then you. This is a quote from our own Paul...

By the way - always buy cancellation insurance from a third party, not the cruise line. They will cover bankruptcy and other defaults more commonly than a cruise line offered policy will.

Trip gave the right advice on where to look but just got a bit confused on 3rd party insurance. All of the polices on insuremytrip are 3rd party insurers.

What I should have said is, not to buy it from the cruiseline..We were in Nassau, not too long after the Big Red Boat was siezed. The situation was a sad one, with people and crew left to fend for them selves to get home. I remember reading about the insurance problems then, for those who bought it from the line.
