Yes Danny they do. They actually monitor the whole world. The main emphasis is on hospitals, schools, nursing homes and confined areas where any disease can be easily spread. Norovirus and "nor-type virus is the second to the common cold in transmitted disease. It isn't just on cruise ships. Do a Google search sometime and see how widespread it really is.
Your advice is the best: Wash your hands!!!!
Take care,
Mike

That's is why before cruising have your doc give you a prescription for the coverall antibiotic - Cipro. In Mexico they can buy it OTC!!!
Noid:
While Cipro is good for intestinal parasites or ecoli it will do absolutely nothing for Norovirus and Norovirus is probably what you will contract onboard a cruise ship.
I jump in because the overuse of antibiotics, especially heavy duty antibiotics such as Cipro, Levaquin and others are creating as many problems as they are solving: I.E. MRSA, Tuberculosis
It's better to be diagnosed with an actual infection and prescribed antibiotics rather than self medicate yourself with them.
Take care,
Mike

Definitely wash your hands - and do not rely on the hand sanitizing gels. They are better than nothing but the germs just dry on your hands again - the important thing is washing the germs AWAY - which means water and drying off with a disposable towel.
Also - just be aware that if you have been in public places and touching handrails, etc do not touch your eyes or pick your nose , or your teeth,
You have to ingest those little germs via direct contact before they get ya!
Just FYI
My doctor told me years ago to put a very SMALL amount of Neosporin in each nostril, rub it gently around inside your nose. This help protect against airborn inhaled germs. I do this when i go to visit a doctor's office (esp when i am not ill, there for check up or with someone else) or to visit someone in the hospital. I will be doing on our cruise too!
Of course always use good hand washing, that means washing for at least 60+ seconds with warm soapy water, rinse well with warm water then DRY well. DO NOT Touch the faucet with your clean hands to turn it off do so with a DRY paper towel and use the dry towel to open the door to exit, there are lots of germs on the door handles. (sorry the old nurse in me rising to teach)
No one wants to get sick on vacation! Be smart and be healthy

Interesting ways to keep healthy on board. I got a kick out of when Liberty of the Seas had a outbreak of noroviris on its THIRD sailing!!! Yes, three weeks old and she had a outbreak of norovirus!!!!!
I take echinachea (sp?) to ward off any possible problems and to bookst my immune system...I'll start taking it last week of August so my immunity is even better when I sail!!!
