Default NCL Dawn in NYC-Fire UNDER the pier

Just as the Norwegian Dawn was docking in NYC from a 7 day cruise today, they discovered a raging fire under the docking area. No one was hurt and there was no damage to the ship but I got a kick out of the lightening fast disembarkation procedure. The cruisers were whisked off the ship before they knew what hit them. Most of them said they didn't even know anything was up until they saw all of the NYFD personnel all around the ship. An interesting and somewhat exciting end to ones cruise I would say !

That is interesting... The first time we disembarked in NYC, it took forever. I almost would have prayed for a fire drill back then. Luckily things have improved since then.

oh, trust me they haven't improved anything in the NYC piers. We just got off the Miracle on the 22nd. It took FOREVER to embark and too darn long to disembark as well. Almost 2 hours in line to embark (princess it took 15 minutes) and it took almost 2 hours to get out on the street disembarking. I don't know what the heck goes on with the NYC piers they just seem to take forever. Princess has a pier in Brooklyn and the are just unbelievable with how fast they get you on and off.

Things have improved!

The lines were very short and immigration took only a couple of minutes this time, less then 10 minutes after we left the ship we stood in the line for a cab which we got about five minutes later!

We debarkated the Norwegian Jewel the same day as the fire.

The lines were much longer, both for immigration and cab, when we cruised with the Norwegian Dawn 2006.
