Default What factor is most important to you when choosing a cruise?

When you are choosing a cruise what factors do you consider the most important? I have made this into a poll and here are your choices.

1. The Ship
2. The Itinerary
3. The Cost
4. The ship line

I guess the reason I am asking is that some posters to other threads I have started have said that they pick a cruise many times just because of the ship and it's amenities. I had never thought of this before as I have always picked my cruises because of the Itinerary and price.

If you do cruise for the Ship it would be interesting to know why you do so.

Thanks
Tim

We usually pick because of itinerary and cost, but I couldn't vote both things.

I always pick ship/cruiseline first and then choose an itinerary that I have not done that sounds good. Of course, I have the cost has to be reasonable but I have been known to choose some very expensive cruises JUST because of the itinerary.

If you are not going to enjoy the ship/cruiseline, then you will not have a good time no matter the itinerary or the cost; that is why I selected ship in your poll.

1. The Itinerary
2. The Cruise line, not the ship
3. The Cost

All are just as important.

I chose Itinerary as number 1 because I like to see different places.

The Cruise lines is a way to get to the Itinerary as well as something new to me, I have never been on some lines and would like to try them.

The Cost, I have a set range the cost has to fit into if it doesn't, I don't cruise. I have taken a cruise on cost alone it was a really good price and had a great time.

So all are just as important to me.

We always choose itinerary first and then cost. I like going anywhere so it doesn't matter to me but DH gets bored easily so itinerary is very big for him.

I am somewhat surprised that I am the only one that chose "ship" in this poll. If that is really the case, the cruise companies can sure save millions of dollars in advertising and just undercut on cost.

1. The cruiseline

2. The itinerary

3. The ship

4. The cost

First I look at the cruiseline. If they have the itinerary I want I look at the ship. If they have the right ship on the itinerary I want, I look at the price.

Sorry folks....Cruise line was supposed to be one of the choices in the poll but for some reason it didn't register.

I realize that all choices add into deciding which cruise to take. I was just wondering that if you had to choose only one, what would it be?

I also feel the same way.

I enjoyed the Liberty of The seas so much that it made the itinerary secondary.

As far as cost goes, life is too short shor to worry about it.

Our next cruise is on the Celebrity Solstice and I picked it because of the ship.

I've never found a ship or cruise line I didn't like, soooo

#1 Cost
#2 Cruise line
#3 Ship
#4 Itinerary

I seldom leave the ship at any port, so frankly, the Itinerary is dead last on the list.

I have yet to find a ship that was overall "bad" and nothing that ruined a cruise. Yes, there may have been some things I did not like or there may have been some issues but none of them were "cruise ruining" events.

Because of this, Itinerary was number one. I want to see different places and enjoy new experiences.

I do enjoy open seating and country club casual cruising but if the itinerary is right I will do a traditional cruise.

There are some lines that make cost a major factor. I don't want to spend $250/day to go to the same places where I could go for $100 -$150/day.

Take care,
Mike

I am one of those oddballs that pick the ship first. I like certain ameneties on the ship I'll be cruising on. Most ships and lines do various itineraries so that is really not a concern. Although price is important, I assume I'll be paying a hefty tab when I decide to cruise so I just tend to go when prices are lowest if possible.

If cost is your number one criteria, does that mean that you cruise Regal Empress and Easy Cruise?

I am an odd bod as I choose dining policy first, smoking policy then dress code.

I don't cruise if those things don't suit me.

I like anytime dining and a relaxed dress code. I do not do formal wear period. I also enjoy a smoke.

I suppose you could say I choose my cruiseline first.

Definitely ship first. I would not go on a old, cheap cruise ship due to only price. Second of course i the cost. Thats pretty much all i look for. Norwegian and Princess cruises get a little boost on my list though.

I guess I never did give my 2 cents worth.

1. Itinerary
2. Cost
3. Ship
4. Cruiseline

Ship is rising up fast after the cruise we had on the small Holiday ship. My wife had a very bad time with seasickness so we no longer book a cruise on smaller vessels. Itinerary is number 1 because we want to see as many different places while we can. No telling when the funds go away or health goes away and we can't get around good anymore so we want to see all we can while we can. Cost is always a factor as we will not pay $200 more for the same itinerary if the cheaper line is comparable to the more expensive one.

I'm with you. My list would be (a) itinerary; (b) cruise line; (c) cost; and (d) ship. But that's because I only usually only have the opportunity to do one cruise per year, and I want that cruise to go somewhere I really enjoy going; like Hawaii and/or the South Pacific. If I had more time and money, and could afford to do multiple cruises each year, then maybe I would be willing to just book a cruise going pretty much anywhere, but on a ship I would like to sail.

Blue skies ...

I didn't vote because this is obviously an equation not a multiple choice quiz. Cost is relative to the other factors, but is often the governing element of the equation. I'd like to join our friend Mark on RSSC, but that is not in my budget.

Right now there are so many places I have not been so itinerary probably rules. After that cost/ship/cruiseline come into play.
