Default Bed covers washed?

Are the bedspreads/comforters freshly laundered before each new guest? I often wonder about that.

I wondered that too many times and was assured yes. Just ask your cabin steward.

On our last few cruises when we put our luggage under the bed there isn't anything under there but when we got it out to repack there was a large plastic bag with a freshly laundered bed quilt in it. So chances are they do clean them.

They say don't put your luggage under the bed, just incase of bed bugs, thats a way to take them home with you, in your luggage!

I heard to put it in the closet. There was a post on here, oh maybe a year or so ago of someone who swore they got bed bugs off of one of the ships, don't remember which line. I also heard a report about the bedbugs increasing and a way to not bring them home was to not put your luggage under the beds.

Of all occurrences of bed bugs that have been confirmed on a cruise ship that I have found the bed bugs came in on the guests luggage. Not the other way around.

I'd like to think the bed covers are changed each turn over, but I doubt it.

I have heard that bed covers are washed. On Silversea I watched a stewardess do a changeover where she completely stripped the mattress and boxspring and vacuumed both, then she put on fresh linen.

Chances are they would have a way of rotating bedding (which is why there is a fresh one in the closet) so they don't have to wash them and put them back, they just switch them out.

I have read this also -- not just about cruise ships. NEVER take your luggage in the house and unpack on your bed -- dump the inards then store your cases in the garage. I don't do this; however, I store my luggage in the basement in a the furnace room, away from any soft furniture, though.

I worked in the housekeeping department in three of Atlantic City's casino hotels. I worked as a housekeeper and as a supervisor, and no, bedspreads and blankets are not changed everytime a guest checks out.

Blankets and bedspreads are changed only if they smell, or if they are visibly dirty, or whenever the guest requests the blankets and bedspreads be changed.

Since I know what goes on in the room while the maids are cleaning, I never, never, never use the blanket on the bed whenever I check into a hotel room. It's really disgusting to know that you're literally sleeping in other people's God-knows-what.

I remember the thread . What later came out was that they found the
Bed Bugs about three months after the cruise. They had also stayed
in a number of hotels after the cruise.

Do you bring lysol spray in your luggage and then spray the mattress? Does lysol kill bedbugs? I don't think getting bedbugs is very likely. If getsemani1 doesnt use the blankets in hotels, what does she use? Just curious. Thanks

I use the top sheet of the bed, but never the blanket. Sheets and pillowcases are always changed, but not the blanket or bedspread.

My mom was looking for a lost earring and but all the overs off the bed only to find a huge blood stain on the other side that was pushed into the wall.

After that, she slept in my bed. That was not fun. lol

I NEVER use a hotel comforter or bedspread and only use the blanket if I've forgotten my travel one. Then, I get an extra top sheet & cocoon the blanket. I'm not a germaphobe but the very idea of sleeping with someone else's DNA.... ..... . I bought a travel blanket that is very similar to the ones on an airplane (YUCK, again) (think I purchased at Magellan's online). I pack that and a top sheet from home. They take up almost no room in my suitcase and actually can help to anchor items in my suitcase since I lay them on top. If you do this, just be sure to take a brightly colored sheet so that housekeeping wouldn't take it by accident "IF" they were inclined to change the sheets.
Oh, and as for luggage storage, my husband & I have always, regardless of cruise line, asked the cabin steward to take our empties and store them. They've always been gracious and taken them for us. (Someone told me to do this years ago.)

In many cases, the "extra" bedspread or bedspreads are simply the changeout comforters necessary to transform a queen to two twins or two twins to a queen sized bed.

I suspect they are cleaned less frequently than many passengers would prefer.
