I just got back from my cruise last night (Carnival Miracle 8 day southern Caribbean Nov 20). I went to the SXM Airprt beach like i said I was. I did rent a vehicle and drove there. Took less then 30 minutes. I was told the Sunset Bar and Grille was destroyed in a Hurricane. They did rebuild and all is fine at far end of beach at runway. They have a nice sized parking lot that is FREE and plentiful right next to the building. They have a nice deck and covered unbrella tables which you can easyly spend the day there comfortably. There is a speaker mounted on rail facing the beach that broadcast live radio chat from all pilots of approaching aircraft. There is also a schedule posted on the back of a surfboard that list all the flights landing during the day. I got plenty of pics and videos and also got "blasted" a few times from planes taking off. People there run down the beach just to get in the jetblast of aircraft. When I go back to St Maarten, I will return there for more "fun".
BTW..I did wear my Kilts on the whole trip..Didnt wear any pants the whole time, even in the dining room..No problems..Looking forward to my next cruise in the future.
Weather couldnt have been better..PERFECT the whole 8 days. I also went to St Lucia and St Kitts. St Lucia I went to a popular beach which was to popular and commercialized and got haggled to much by all the locals. I didnt go ashore in St Kitts but I will the next ime to go there in future.
