Opinion on new CM website
Curious about what folks think of the new site? At first, I hated it but that's because I'm a senior and we HATE changes! But I enjoy CM so much I was determined to overcome. Every so often, I simply start exploring the site and have gradually figured it all out. And all the kinks appear to have been ironed out..
It's terrific! So many new features. What do the moderators think...has it made your life easier or not?

I miss a couple of features from the old site. I used to be able to embed Youtube videos. Also you used to be able to edit posts at any time, now there is a time limit.
The edit post thing is the most annoying for me. I make grammar and spell errors if it's past the time limit I can't go in and fix the post. That drives me crazy having to stare at the mistakes with no way to fix them.

Kat, you can pm me and I will fix em for you, just remember I type triponese
I think after a few kinks in the beginning, this is a real user friendly site for posters and moderators alike Like getting a new hair do..it takes a while to get to love it

I have to agree, like anything new, it takes a bit to get used to it. Yes, as a board monitor, it is a lot easier and a time saver. At first I was uneasy about doing things, but now it easy and I've learned to love the new format.

Trip don't worry about it. All the Grammar/Spelling mistakes I make fixing them would be a full time job. I just have to proof read a little better.

I lerned to spel frum hucked on fonix.
Actually the new site required a zero degree learning curve for me as I am very active on "Brand X" cruise board which has used this software for years.
Since I nearly am one do any others dislike be characterized as not liking change by virtue of our age? If I get to that point I plan on checking into the old age home.

What do you mean you cannot create new post?
I have to tell you all - I had NO porblems with thee old boards, but many people told us they hated them. I have no idea. I personally liked them just fine.
I do see some advantages to these. The idea for editing these is that you see your post right after you type it, and you get 15 minutes to edit it. So you need to proof-read it right away.
I also think that is silly. Sometimes you see something you post two weeks ago and think "why did I say that?"
But there were some people who said they "hated" the old boards. I honestly still do not understand why, but I am sure they will come and tell us now.

Just some idea's what about having something kinda like the facebook that when someone replies to a thread that you had commented on it sends you email and/or text and have it where you can just reply from that and it automatically post it for you. That way you can reply and post on the go!!!!

We do have the option to have the board send you an email someone replies to your post. I use it all the time and think it is great.
If we just put the actual post in the emal then we wouldn't have any reason for you to come back to the website - and we need eyeballs to make money
I guess we could put ads in our emails - which would you rather have:
Email notifications where you don't have to go back to the web site but it has an ad in it --
or an email notification where you are told you have a reply but you have to come here to read it?
(I am really asking your opinion, this is not a test ;-) )

well im not sure what way would be better. Most of the time i don't mind going back to the website. But my email notification go to my personal email and I don't get them till after im home from work. It would be nice for everyone in the blackberry pda world i would think that have instead access. Maybe there could be a poll to see what people would like the most? just a thought... Have a great weekend all Justin

I'm not sure how actually visiting the site produces revenue, I never see any advertisements here. There are links at the top of the screen for cruise deals, etc., but they require a visit to that link. That's one of the things I like about CM. No pressure. Plenty to offer, but nothing is forced on me.
The emails I get from most message boards I participate in give the reply to the thread, and warn me that I will get no future emails unless or until I visit the thread again. That's usually enough to get me back there.

Well, the truth is we you should be seeing banner ads - if you are not seeing them you must have some kind of software that turns them off.
In any case - traffic at the actual website is very imprtant to any website.
I agree the blackberry idea has validity, however.
