We are cruising out of Fort Lauderdale in December. I didn't even realize that Fort Lauderdale was close to Miami but a friend of mine told me they flew into Miami when they cruised out of Fort Lauderdale because it was cheaper. We haven't purchased our airline tickets yet but when browsing for prices I don't find that Miami is that much cheaper to compensate for the added taxi and time. Does anyone have any experience with this?
"Usually", Fort Lauderdale is less expensive than flying into Miami. I would not want to fly into Miami International if I was cruising out of FLL or vice versa.
While they are only about 30 miles apart getting between the two can be expensive, complicated and time consuming.
Flying into Fort Lauderdale and cruising from there is about the easiest of all the ports I've sailed from. FLL is close to Port Everglades and the airport is easier to navigate than Miami International.
If you can fly into Fort Lauderdale for less, equal or slightly more money than MIA then do it.
Take care,
Mike

It's always easier to fly into one city, and, cruise from there, but in reality, sometimes your ship of choice, is an hour away.
I love Lauderdale airport, and dislike Miami...try www.sasrides.com. and they will shuttle you between the 2 cities for $15.00 pp.. this is a really good price...I used them, and, they were great...For me, I would book the less expensive ticket ..It's a no hassle choice.

We haven't found that the airline prices are that much different (especially when you add in ground transportation). We fly to Miami when we sail from Miami, and to Ft. Lauderdale when we sail from there. We just find that it's worth whatever the difference in price, to be where we need to be! JMHO,

I'm with you Fern, bad enough having to fly in, get to port, etc....The shorter the travel time, the better. Its worth it to pay a few more dollars, if that is the case than add another hour or more traveling. I think anything with less stress the better and worth the price.
since you are cruising out of Ft. Lauderdale, definatley fly into Ft. Lauderdale, it is so much easier and less of a hassle than Miami, cruise terminal in Lauderdale is 10 min max from the airport, a breeze! lol
