Default First thing you do on board

Once you board and have checked in, done the picture thing, headed to the Lido deck for some lunch and maybe even had a peek at your room.

Then what is the first thing you like to do? What do you check out?

We usually head to the dining room, to check out our table location, and see if it's what we want, or need to change....then tour the spa area, and end up on the pool deck for sailaway..

I have only sailed on Royal Caribbean; so if I am on a new ship I get a guide of the ships layout and check out the different parts of the ship. I also visit the dining room to check out table location for our cruise; after that head to the room, muster drill, and sailaway.

I, like Trip, check out where my table is in the dining room. After that, if it's a ship I've never sailed, I do my own tour. I start at the top deck and work my way down. I may stop at one of the bars along the way.

After muster drill we go to our balcony and pop the cork on a bottle of champagne.

Take care,
Mike

I head to the pool grill for a steak sandwich.

This has been my routine on last fifteen cruises.

I've only sailed twice. However both times my instincts kicked in and I ended up with Cheeseburger #1 at the Lido grill.

When you check out your table in the dining room - do you talk to the maitre d? They don't mind you changing?

You can get your table changed if they have room. Normally they have a few tables at each seating set aside for people who want to book a table for two or a table for four. That is why a lot of people head to dining room after they board; they want to make sure they have a good talbe in a good area.

My question is: what is a good area? Where are the plum tables located? Or is a matter of personal taste?

I can tell you the tables that you do not want. The ones around the server's stations. Lots of commotion and clanging of silverware, plates and glasses. Not an ideal location.

You just described the tables I've had on all my cruises. (All 2, that is - )!

That's why I love this board .... so much great advice. It never would have occurred to me that I could check out the table in advance and request a change.

OTOH, if we had changed tables on our last cruise due to the proximity to the servers' station, we wouldn't have met the lovely couple we became friends with over the course of the cruise. Makes you wonder.

There is that serendipity thing again. Sometimes it is best to go with the flow and let it play out. You never know what could happen. On our first cruise my dh and I were fortyish and we were seated with 3 other honeymoon couples in their twenties.
I sometimes wonder how people are paired up but we all had the best time and our table was always full of laughter. We even hung out through the week. Go figure!

Unpack the carry ones.
Check for a table number if we signed up for traditional dining.
Head out to either find the table and see the tonights dinner menu or explore the ship and view. Find the Beverage station.
One favorite thing is to go sit in the hot tubs and listen to the Band.

The deck bands are one of my most favourite things on a cruise. Grab a dod, a warm breeze and some island music...ahh!
