Say for instance, your ship will dock at 8:00 am for debarkation and you need to get to the airport for a flight back home. How early do you feel comfortable booking your flight back home. With custom delays and traffic jams, I always get nervous booking too early, but I hate sitting in the airport for half a day. I was just curious what you all do.

Hi Sally, it really depends on the port. For instance, in Ft. Lauderdale we've made a 10:30 AM flight. The airport is very close to the port.
If you're coming into Long Beach or San Pedro, and flying from LAX, I wouldn't book anything before 2 PM.
Usually, you're safe booking a flight after the time recommended by the cruise line.

General rule of thumb is noon. I usually book a flight around that time and have never had an issue with making a flight.
The closest I've come to missing a flight was in Fort Lauderdale. The ship was late in disembarkation and we had an 11:15 a.m. flight. We didn't leave the ship until 10:30 a.m. and the back up at security made it a real close one. We got on the plane just as they were closing the doors.
The real bad part was that our luggage didn't make the flight and had to be delivered the next day.
