Default How common is 'cruise addiction'?

A coworker went on his first cruise when he was 40, and from that point on, he was hooked. He's in his 60s, and goes on a cruise every year. He tells me cruising is an addiction- he loves it. Anyone here got the cruising bug?

Yep, it only takes one nice cruise and the rest is history....There is just something about it, may-be the carefree feeling you get, everything is taken care of for you, just showing up for meals, etc....You gotta love it!

My wife and I took our best friends on their first cruise. They were in their 50's. They now go on three to four a year; and are Diamonds plus on Royal Caribbean. My wife and I are Platnium with Royal. So they must love cruising.

To the OP: I'd say your friend has a very mild case.

We all get salt water intraveniously, as often as we can

It's exactly like Donna said. We took one nice cruise and we were hooked.

Unhappy Danger of cruising

Yes, there is a danger....the DANGER is that you become addicted after your first great experience and it's a matter of how many you can take per year.. You find yourself scanning itineraries, making plans and well more than a year in advance...we are hooked. Right now it's twice a year... If we could "catch" a last minute cruise living in Florida it would be more often. We are hooked on trans-atlantic cruises...

In 1998 I "booked" my first cruise but my wife was completely against it. She came to this country on a ship. It was one month from Brasil to San Francisco and she was sick the whole time. She said no way was she going to to do that again so I canceled.

Well a year later I finally talked her into it by showing her the ships the cabins and most of all the food. We booked our first cruise for February of 2000 and we have thirty something cruises since then. The only mistake I made was that I booked a top end suite for our first cruise. Now we are spoiled and only want at least a balcony cabin.

I firmly believe that if I had booked an inside cabin we may well have not booked another cruise. We booked our second cruise a week after coming home from the first.

It is an addiction but like all addictive substances some people get hooked and others don't. My brother sailed with us in late 2000 and while he liked it he has no desire to go on another one.

That's fine: It's an addiction I'm happy to have.

Take care,
Mike

One thing that always helps with the addiction, is to have another one booked as soon as one is over....That way, you have one to look forward to eventually.

Parrot Mom,

I'd be interested to hear what it is that you love about trans-atlantic trips. (We are considering booking one soon). Thanks!

For the wife and I, it was our honeymoon cruise in October 2003 on the Majesty OTS. Despite my initial reluctance, I was talked into taking a cruise by a co-worker, but to be sure our honeymoon wasn't ruined we only booked a 4 night Bahamas cruise and booked another 4 nights at a South Beach Miami resort. We took the cruise first and by the time the 4 nights were up, we had become so addicted to Cruising, we tried to cancel the resort and stay onboard for the following 3 night cruise, but RCI had no cabins available so we had to "suffer" in the resort. We also had already booked another cruise for the following year. We now take a cruise every year for our anniversery! In addition to all the other cruises we sneak in here and there in a year!

In fact, I became so addicted, I went back to community college and became a travel agent working part-time in an agency for the past 4 years now. As I am soon to retire from 20+ years in the fire service, I will move to selling cruises full-time.

I also think that cruising is addictive . Compared to other vacation's it's SO easy! Unpacking once and visiting different ports are two of the main advantage's.

Our first cruise was free , and we haven't stopped! I do look into other kind's of vacation's and trip's and I still can't find anything that's more fun and more comfortable, for the $$$ !
