Default Galveston hotels and transportation to port

We are cruising on the Voyager of the Seas over Christmas. We fly in the day before the cruise, Dec. 18th 2010; looking for a hotel that provides shuttle from airport and breakfast; then we need transportation to the port....what would folks advise? Just two of us....should we go back to the airport and pay RCC for their transfer at $92 per person or look at other forms of transportation???? Please share your experiences with me.

Awww, you're sailing on my birthday, don't you want to take me with you?

I don't know of any hotel in Galveston that provides a shuttle service from Houston. You will be flying into Houston Intercontinental Airport or Houston Hobby. Intercontinental (IAH) is on the north side of Houston, and Hobby (HOU) is on the south side. If you have a Southwest Airlines gateway near, this is the airport I recommend that you fly into.

There are several companies offering shuttle services from Houston to Galveston (Google it).

There are many hotels to choose from, all price ranges. You should be able to find a hotel that will offer a shuttle service to the port.

I don't know if this helps, but it is a start!

BTW..... welcome to CruiseMates!

Try hotels.com. We stayed at the HoJo on the seawall. Wasn't all that impressed. It was a clean place to stay, and that is about all I can say. La Quinta has the free breakfast. Hilton Resort has a free shuttle to all of the ports, etc, but I am not sure if they would pick you up from the airport or not since it is in Houston. Also, there are taxis all over the place. I looked up the numbers for the taxi services before we left and had the info with me just in case. I hope you enjoy the cruise.

Thanks for replying! We will think of you while we cruise; we are flying into IAH....they have quoted us at $92 per person round trip transfers to the ship from the airport....do you think that is a good deal or should we look at other options? We could stay a night near the airport and then the next day go back to the airport and get the transfer from there to the ship.....what do you think? thanks so much.....

Do you remember what a reasonable cost would be for two for a taxi? Would you recommend a motel near the airport for the night before and then taking a shuttle or cab to the port? thanks for your help!

Thanks so much for replying; we are on the Voyager of the Seas sailing back to back beginning on the 19th of Dec.; we fly into IAH the night before so we need a place to stay that night and then reasonable transportation to the port. I will look over your recommendations....

It was $20 for four for the taxi. It seems to be the standard charge.

Also, we stayed at the Howard Johnson by the sea wall. I got it on hotels.com for around $90.00 after taxes for the four of us. It was a clean place to stay but had no ammenities.

Betty, you mentioned that you are arriving IAH the night before, what time will you be arriving? If not too late, I would recommend staying in Galveston. After all, once you're on the island.... You're on VACATION! Renting a car, one way, is a good option, if the cost is reasonable. It is pretty much a straight shot from IAH to Galveston, straight down I-45.

The OP was going to Galveston, Texas not Key West.

There is likely a thread here on CM that would benefit form this link, tho.
