Default Felt like I won the lottery:)

What's the highest on board credit you ever received? One time, when we decided to cruise with some friends, he told me if we put it on his platinum card, we each could get an onboard, credit among other things....the credit alone was $300.00! They also gave us a free dinner at the Pinnacle Grill We all thought, whatta deal!

WE don't seem to get OBC much, but by booking really early we have 450 on our next cruise, but for us this is unusual.

How did you find out that your TA took it from you? I'm very new to cruising and we've booked twice with the same TA and have not been offered an OBC either time.

In the UK we get OBC by booking very early, 18/20 months, or as an inducement when they are selling off cabins late.

We, too, had a very meager OBC and then when the cruise price dropped and the cruise line gave us the difference ($100/pp) in an OBC, our credit from the TA disappeared. When I questioned this after the cruise, she claimed that because our fare was reduced her credit disappeared. Cheapskate! It was only $25/pp!! Needless to say, I'm not using this TA again. Her loss.

I heard somewhere that world cruise passengers get something like 500 each. Mind you, you would need it! if two people shared a bottle of modest wine a night @ 15 x 100 nights, then a drink each before dinner & one each after @ 20 x100 nights........

My TA runs ads in local periodicals re getting as much as $1000 per cabin in OBC .There should be an asterisk stating subject to change.

I posted about it on a thread many weeks ago. Mike M replied that it was very common . The price of our cruise went down so drastically that our TA said if she gave us the OBC she would be losing money .

Initially we were going to cruise Dec.3 but our very good friends and CM members were unable to do that cruise so we opted for Dec. 13

As a gift to us a few years ago, my daughter set up an on board credit. It was such a nice suprise to say the least. I keep forgetting you can do that as a gift to someone, nice gift.

We had $800 on our last one week cruise in Med; $300 from Amex and $500 from cruiseline. With all excursions, internet, and drinks included; it was hard to spend the money; Arlene got a nice ring. Our next cruise in Caribbean we will have $700. Again, all excursions, internet, and drinks are included so we will see what Arlene buys. In another couple of years we will qualify for free laundry so won't even be able to use credit for that.

Okay but then did you lose the credit with the cruise line for advancing to platinum with them and how did that work out financially - did everything you spend go on his card and you paid him when you got home??? And what line was it on?

As I remember, this was for HAL Zuiderdam, in 05...he put the deposit on his card, we then paid him, and he paid in full, on the proper date, then we paid him..done! This was booked as 2 cruises under each of our names.

The deal was, we got the best price, and, just booking through Amex, we got the credit and comps. Everything we bought, including our tips, came off the obc. I didn't owe them a penny.

It was probably a deal, that came with your bill, I am just guessing. If it was a well advertised offer, I think I would remember, as would many others, but not really sure about that.

Keep in mind that Marc sails on Radisson Seven Seas. This is a luxury cruise line that is pretty well all-inclusive and costs substantially higher than the mainstream. Too bad he couldn`t apply the credit to the cost of the cruise

Trip, you bought Orange Juice and received OBC. Was the juice company running a special deal?

AF1, Tropicana, was running an offer, if you bought I think it was 9 half gallons, of oj, you would be able to get an on board credit on an NCL cruise. I posted at the time, for others to be able to jump on in, if they fit the criteria. Was a good thing

I'm tied with Marc. Two years ago NCL was running a OBC campaign that I wish they would do again. It was $500 OBC for Suites, $300 for MS, $200 for Balcony and $100 for Inside.

We saw a 12 day Mediterranean cruise for a great price and decided to book. We booked an AC suite and the TA kicked in $200 OBC and I had $100 OBC certificate from a previous cruise that they honored. So the total was $500 for the suite, $200 TA and $100 certificate for a total of $800.

BTW: We spent every penny of it.

One thing to note when receiving OBC is that there are two types: Refundable and non-refundable. Refundable means that if there is any left you receive it in cash and it can also be used for gratuities and casino.

Non-refundable means that it cannot be used for gratuties or casino and if there is any left you lose it.

The rule of thumb that you can use to determine which is which (other than ask at the customer service desk) is that refundable credit is where someone actually paid for it. Non-refundable is where it was a booking incentive provided by the cruise line.

In my case the $500 credit was non-refundable but the $200 and $100 credits were refundable so these credits covered my gratuities.

Take care,
Mike
