Decided on last minute that my husband and I want to go on a 5 or 7 day cruise in early January and also having my mom ( visiting from Germany ) accompany us....we live in Texas so we can drive down to Galveston and board the ship....questions are as follows......
Are there only two cruiseships in Galveston? Wich is a better choice? Would love the Mexico or the Caribbean kind, not sure yet what to book.
We all are in to gambling, food and tours....what is the ball park for a tour off the ship if booked through the ship ?
Also, my mom being a German national, does she need visa to go to any of the ports?
Casinos: slot machines, are they still coin operated or like Vegas with paper money witch takes all the fun away, lol ??
What time do the stores, clubs and restaurants close on the ships? Anything open all night long?
What about the pool hours, can u take midnite swims?
Is getting the insurance really necessary ?
In January there are 3 ships (2 cruise lines). Two for Carnival and one for Royal Caribbean. There are various prices for excursions and various activities to do on excursions. All depends on what you want to do. You need to go on the cruise line website and look at the info and decide. I think you would enjoy the Royal Caribbean ship more since it is one of the larger ships (Voyager of the Seas) and it has more too do. You may not be into ice skating, roller blading and such, but it has shows, ice skating shows and and a royal promonade to walk down with parades and such. And the Royal Caribbean ship is only there from November to April each year and then leaves for Europe. Carnival is there year around so you can try them any time. Both have casino's and shops and they are open late and nothing is open when you are in port until about 1/2 hour or so after you leave the port.
