Over the course of my cruising I have seen the cost of pictiues go through the roof...the professional pictures, like an 8x10, can go for $30.00!!
Do you always buy pictures? The welcome aboard shot, when you look like you just got off a long flight? The pirate and the birdy on his shoulder? The long line while they take pictures in port..tell us how you really feel?
Love em, hate em?

The cruise lines make more money from the photography department than either the bar or the casino. I think it's a big rip off and they keep raising the prices. I make a point of avoiding the photographers wherever they may be.
I've been taking pics since I was a little girl and now with these digital cameras, it's so much easier in that you can delete the bad ones right away.
I cruise the Emerald Princess, Eastern Caribbean on April 16, 2012
Normally my DW and I get as many photo's taken as possible and then normally purchase 1 or 2 of the best to take home. At home we copy them and give to relatives so we at least get our yearly photo that way.

For our annual family reunion cruise, we always pose, and buy one group foto. Other than that, I avoid the cameras most of the time, with the only exception being outside the dining room, when they have the lovely Carnival Dancer to pose with. (Yes,,,,I'm a dirty old man!)
We have many of the on board 'gift' photos still tucked away in drawers having never seen the light of day let alone a frame or display area.
A few years ago we were given an anniversary package which included a portrait photo, we tried several times to get a good one of ourselves, eventually giving up & negotiating having a nice one of the ship instead

We hope for a good embarkation photo and may pose for a formal and have often been disappointed - it is hard to make me look good. I hate the gangway photos.

Funny you should bring this up, Trip! I just returned home from my Dream cruise, and while I was waiting to disembark, I was watching a few people flipping through the photos they had purchased and I was flabber-gasted to say the least. One woman claimed to her husband that she had paid $180.00 for the pictures she purchased and another one must have had 50 8 x 10 photos on her lap! Crazy! One or two...I can understand, but 50?
