Default Kids or No Kids?

What's your ideal on a cruise? Do you prefer to cruise on the lines that cater to the family market, or do you look to sail when the fewest number of kids might be onboard?

I would prefer a cruise line who confiscates the children like they do alcohol, and return them at the end of the cruise

I only had one cruise impacted by unruly kids, and boy it was rough some of the time. This was an Easter cruise, filled with people from a priorcruise that had been cancelled.

Usually the majority of kids, have been well behaved, sometimes better than the adults!

Ask me if I would book another Easter cruise, Christmas, or a spring break cruise, and I would have to answer no....I don't want to push my luck!

Definitely no kids for me. I have sailed on a couple of holiday sailings and also a "kids cruise free" sailing and survived. Still, I am cruising the week after New Year's this year to avoid kids.

I have never had an issue with kids.

I don't know if I'd want to cruise on a sailing that was 50%+ kids because the activities would probably be highly kid oriented. Otherwise I could care less.

In my 30 something cruises kids have never been a problem but I have been subjected to obnoxious adults.

Take care,
Mike

I'm with you Mike, never had any major problems that had to do with kids. Heck, I actually enjoying seeing kids on cruises. Most of the time, you don't see them, they are usually enjoying the kids program or with their parents. As long as they are behaving, I reather enjoy them..

We (and 3 other couples) did a 3-nighter for DH birthday a few years back.
His BD is March 24 and I totally forgot about March Break. It was wild! Kids overtook both pools and the parents were as bad as the kids, if not worse. But this was our own fault so we made the best of it-spent a lot of time in the bars, the casino and playing Bingo. Anywhere the kids were not. Cost us more than a 7 nighter but had a great time. The only other problem we ever had was a 2 week cruise on the Princess Sea-after week one we stopped at Barbados and picked up a few hundred Brits with some of the worst behaved kids I have ever seen. The parents were there for a good time and basically let the crew and other passengers babysit. But on the other hand, we have enjoyed many cruises where there were plenty of children on board-on one occasion I ended up back in my cabin with a couple of teens searching for something with a maple leaf on it that they needed for a scavenger hunt.

Kuki, I am definitely with you on this one It's not that I don't love kids, I've had 3 of my own and have 2 grand babies, it's that I have no love for ill mannered, misbehaving kids and their parents who do nothing about it! I didn't allow my children to run wild, and have absolutely no patience for other peoples children who do! I've been on cruises where my dogs would have been better behaved than the kids on the ship.

Some kids are ok. I don't like to many kids on the ship. Gets kind of crazy. Can't find a spot in the jucuzzi's or pools. Parents to often just let the kids roam free.

Are you talking children or teenagers?

Personally, I'm not a fan of cruises with teenagers .... you know the ones that seem like an entire hockey team is on the cruise, and you get flocks of teens hanging out together without an adult in site?

My kids are young ... and WELL-BEHAVED! So, I promise you will not have any issue with my little two. But the screaming brats that have parents who cannot control them .... I don't want to see them on a cruiseship any more than I want to see them at Olive Garden or Church or the shopping mall.

My kids have only cruised once (Carnival DREAM - earlier this year). Mine aren't a huge fan of the kid's clubs, so they spend a lot of time with us. Personally, i don't cruise to drop my kids off at the kid's clubs. We cruise to spend time together as a family, so it's what works for us. On DREAM, I had a swollen head from all the people that told us how cute or how well-behaved my kids were. I was actually amazed at how many people stopped to engage in conversation wtih my little ones. My kids will be 3 and 5 when we sail next.

As for me, when we chose cruises for ourselves, we tend to patronize Royal. Royal, however, is not priced well for families with young children. Carnival obviously has the best pricing for families; however nothing beats the deal we got through HAL. So, if you want to avoid my young two, cruise with Royal, because it will be years before we pay close to full-fare for these two.

On my last HAL cruise (2008) the youngest passenger other than myself was about 70 .However on the cruise I just left there were about 50 kids under age 12 ;about 50 teenagers and a lot of young adults .

Yep. Agreed.

My first cruise was an adults only sailing in Tahiti. I had no experience at that point on a cruise with kids so I didn't know better.

Now I can say that if there were to be an adults only cruise ship I would book it. A non smoking adults only cruise would be ideal but that will never happen.

My last cruise on HAL, they made me go to the "Kids Club", for kids like me between the age of 60 and 70. We had a wonderful time away from those pesky adults, (71 and up) and I can't wait to do another HAL cruise and do karaoke in the "Kids Club". I do wish they'd let me swim in the adult pool, and hot tub though!

The only place that the smoking really bothers me is in the casino. I HATE having to leave a table because the guy beside me keeps puffing in my face. Even if you can get a seat at a non-smoking table .... it's generally right beside the smoking slots section.

Personally, I'd love a non-smoking ship.

My hubby and I don't have kids. The cruise prices during the school breaks are a lot higher. So we don't cruise during these times. I prefer cruises without kids. There are well behaved children out in the world. However, I tend to remember the annoying, bratty children instead.

Smokers don't bother me at all. That even a little bit. I'm a non smoker for the record. I think smoking doesn't bother me because I had a boyfriend that was a great kisser who smoked. So for me smoking was a positive experience. I'm glad my hubby quit smoking; it wasn't good for his health. Misbehaving children with irritating parents bug the heck out of me.

Besides, a kid is a goat. Just ask Snoozeman!
I don't want to sail with goats!
